Up against a deadline. I'm preparing for a "proof of concept" meeting with colleagues for next Monday to demonstrate that RapidWeaver is capable of handling our website needs. This will be our first hosted website. We're a non-profit and all volunteers. We host an annual Buddhist meditation once a year plus a number of "special events." Not sure where to find the following answers. Your notes quite appreciated.

1. I've been experiencing confusion with the themes on offer. We need something dead simple. What I'd like to do is mock up the poster for the last retreat in RW and show that the poster can be rendered in RW. When typing in the Editor window, choosing a font, then selecting a size, the built-in Preview has a mind of its own.

2. I've already learned how to add a page to my current theme's Menu Items. I'd like this site to have Menu Items that open to a new window at an associated site, jumping to a quite different URL. Is this possible?

There's an "Offsite" page type with a curved arrow icon pointing to the right. I'm guessing this might be the appropriate tool. However the page inspector does't seem to offer a place for the appropriate URL.

Much appreciated.

Hi Guys

I recently bought "Monster File" on codecanyon. It's a php script for having files stored in a database and shared when needed to users that you make. It's so nice that I wanted to share this with you.

-> http://codecanyon.net/item/monsterfile-multiuser-file-management/4210316

Take a look at the demo. It can manage very big files if needed.

For having this in a RW file just install it like in the manual and set it in a folder in your ftp. Then browse to the foldername. Or have it shown in an iFrame within your RW page.

Hope you like it!

Hi all,

I think it's about time that I moved to a more professional hosting company that gives better customer support and fewer problems with many RW Stacks (particularly PHP related) . This is quite a daunting task as I now have about 60 websites/domains that I look after, many of which include an email service. Some of my clients choose to stay with their existing host and give me an FTP account or access to their control panel. One such client uses Heart Internet (based in the UK) and I am very impressed with their system. They have a comprehensive (but quite expensive) reseller package and I just wanted to see if any RW users on this forum have experience of Heart Internet (good and bad) or can suggest a good alternative.

Many thanks,

I'm a designer who stepped into developing websites using RapidWeaver. I love it, but I'm getting bigger opportunities that require database, blog and heavy customer CMS functionality — basically editorial websites and real estate websites. This seems to be too much for RapidWeaver to handle. I was recommended to check out Concrete5, which I've never heard of until this week. I like the idea of using something other than WordPress, because everyone and their mother is developing with WordPress — even if they have no design background. Many of my clients come to me when they are ready to ditch their previous WordPress developer, due to the lack of a well designed brand strategy. I hate the thought of learning something new and having to buy all new plugins all over again. I'm not a code guy, although I've had to figure some stuff out to make RapidWeaver work for me.

I will continue to do small business website design and development with RapidWeaver, but the time has come for me to consider broadening my skills with a larger CMS platform like Concrete5 or WordPress. Any advice out there regarding Concrete5 over WordPress? Any feedback regarding plugin cost comparisons. Are plugin's relatively the same cost between both platforms?

I've read a little about comparisons and they both seem to be very strong. WordPress has more plugins available and it's no longer considered just a blogging platform, but a true CMS option.

Thanks,

I recently purchased an NCD theme (G omatrix) and was surprised to discover that the manual is extremely limited. To call this a manual is an insult to those who care about their users, and actually try to give good advice. Maybe Jim at Mouserwork have spoiled me: his intelligent and pedagogical advice is the top end of the scale. At the very low end of the scale, those sellers who neither care nor pretend to care, is Nick Cates Design. Their attitude is simply: we don't care and that's not our problem. In fact, they care so little that they don't even bother to write a decent manual. As an example: if you compare Henk Vrieselaar's comprehensive manuals with the skimpy excuse that NCD offers...well, it's like day and night.

Since they don't tell you about this in their sales pitch, and nobody told me, I hereby warn anyone planning to buy a NCD theme: Unless you know how to tweak everything yourself, forget about NCD.

Maybe others have a different experience, I don't know. But one thing is very clear to me: I will never again buy a NCD product. NEVER.
RE: test.chrishandleyphotography.com/miras256

Currently I'm testing HTML5 video stack by Joe Workman. Looks great on a Mac and iPad, but it doesn't work on my client's PC running Windows XP. Her IE 6 at home and IE 10 at work (Windows 7) produce a black screen with sound and no video. She has the current version of FireFox for her Windows XP, which looks awful — slow, choppy and color is dingy. Chrome on her Windows XP worked well. JW support helped me with all the video conversions prior to the current negative results. I've not heard back from JW support on any new recommendations, so it's time to seek advice on alternatives.

Ultimately, I need a warehouse video stack that is backward compatible and works well on mobile devices as well. My client does not want YouTube and prefers the warehoused option. Any recommendations?

Thanks,

Hi, I have been asked for a website I designed in RW to be translated into Russian and Chinese. There are a few translation agencies I have used in the past for print projects but I'm not sure how to copy and paste Russian and Chinese characters into web pages and site navigation if indeed this is possible within RW themes. The website itself is very basic and uses the Blow-up dropdown theme by Henk Vrieselaar. http://www.villapithari.com/
Would appreciate if anyone can point me in the right direction.

I always thought that the RapidWeaver files contained everything related to a site. I have given the maintenance of a site to someone and when they try to publish, from their Mac, there are many errors because of missing files. Most of these are photos in album pages. Is there a way to "collect for output" to use an XPress term or "Package" as in InDesign?
I've noticed that at times, I've had issues if I do not have a sever volume mounted where photos reside. I'll get errors upon publishing and I need to find the folder with the photos and then "link" them up.

Thanks,

The galleries will contain different images to each other and preferably want to do this drag and drop style without link to online content.

I've purchased Ultimate galleries but it seems you can only have one launcher on the page.

Anyone know of any stacks or ways to do this.
Just a quick question. Why is the gallery showing up behind the main stacks rather than in front? Am I doing something wrong here?

Hi,

I'm a pretty new RapidWeaver user and loving every minute of it.
I've collected a good number of stacks now and a number of different themes to play with and have built several websites so far, with happy customers to show for it too.

Now I want to take a bit of time and build my own website and try to make it special. By that I mean I want to try to get the design/layout/colour scheme "just right". So that it looks and feels natural and correct. To that end I'm looking for some recommendations for a theme to use.

I've sort of convinced myself that I want to use Boreal by NCD, or maybe Carbon... or maybe Droplet by Elixir (whose "Iconic" theme is absolutely amazing, the best I currently own by far!).
But then again some of the SeyDesigns themes would also look awesome as a freelance web design portfolio. So many choices...

I think I want to aim for a dark theme with very crisp high contrast text and a fluid feel. Boreal seems to come close to this . It is one of the more expensive themes at about £30 ( I could buy two other themes for that ), but as it to be used to "show off" what I can do, I suppose there is no point in trying to cut corners as I'll just end up spending more in the long run.

Recommendations anyone?

Thanks,
