For a long time I found writing content in Rapidweaver very unsatisfactory. While RW does a lot of things well, it's not very pleasant for creating text content. I now use RW only for "design" but not for "text content."

My web-writing partner is Scrivener. Now all my pages can be Stacks (using HTML stacks) or HTML pages. I can easily incorporate other stacks (images, tables, etc.) within Scrivener via the magic of the Houdini stack.

This new workflow greatly increases my enjoyment and productivity for writing web content.

I've created an 11 minute tutorial showing how I've set this up with Scrivener, RW, and the Houdini stack. This approach is mainly helpful for those who use a fair amount of written text at their sites.

Hey everyone, quick question.

I am using Rapid Weaver with the Gravity theme. There are a couple of links in my menu that I would like to be hoverable, but not clickable. I want it to be hoverable, so it can drop down to sub-menus, but I don't want anyone to be able to click on it.

You can look at my site below. Check out the links to "questions" or "info." These links are blank. I want to disable those links so people cannot click on them, but I want the sub-menus to still drop down. Does that make sense? If not, I can try to explain more. Thanks for your help in advance!
Any suggestions how one could achieve this in RW? - or alternatively is there a theme that might be able to replicate this feature.

I'd like to bring the attention of the RapidWeaver community to an exciting new web utility called Nibbler.

Nibbler is a web-based utility, still in alpha, that tests web sites using objective criteria and assigns a score from 0 to 10. It just so happens, that in my limited testing, my RapidWeaver-based designs get a relatively high score of 6.7 to 9.0 compared to my clueless, Microsoft Windows-using, FrontPage2003-wielding, table-for-layout applying, Windows-1253 encoding, sorry excuse for competition.

You may visit my website http://www.milosweb.com to view a couple of flash-based presentations on Nibbler test scores. The lowest score a website of mine has received thus far has been 6.7, and that's for an under-construction website! This score is also the highest my hapless competition could muster. I swear, I had nothing to do with it. It was all RealMac's RapidWeaver and the excellent theme designs of Henk Vrieselaar and seyDoggy I have been using, as well as the various plug-ins of the conscientious RapidWeaver developers.

It would be interesting to see how the websites of the rest of you score on Nibbler. I'd like to ask that all who read this message respond by publishing the URL of your website(s) with their associated Nibbler score(s), plus the website's age.

To start, I'd like to publish my highest scoring website:

www.milosweb.com - Nibbler: 9.0 - website age: 2006

At the same time, I'd like to invite all RapidWeaver theme and plug-in developers to chime in, with comments on how their themes and plug-ins are (or can be) optimized further for SEO and higher Nibbler scores.
Does that make sense? Is that even possible? I have JoeWorkman's offsite stacks, but its not quite what Im looking for. Joe Workmans page is a great example of breaking out of the box http://joeworkman.net/
Take a look at the sidebar which has joes toolbox graphic overlaid at the top and spilling into the header area, then there is the "Featured" box, which has the title breaking out of the box area. I presume this is all to do with padding and margin settings? What I don't understand is how you can have the toolbox image that appears on the right to be way past the left side of the other columns. RW is basically columns and grids, so how do I go about layouts like this that allow me to break out of it?

OK, I'm the newbie. But I've received great help from these forums, and so decided to post my method (arrived at after a lot of trial and error, attempting to use various suggestions/tutorials I found here and elsewhere) for having a popup window with an mp3 player that displays name/artist while playing. I am not a coder, so maybe some experts can improve on these instructions. Other BIG caveat: I haven't yet tested this on IE, but it works well on my Mac with Chrome/Safari/Firefox.

I purchased the mp3 stack but abandoned it after many hours of frustration trying to get it to display name/artist.

Then I discovered the free Dewplayer - eureka! It displays the tags that the mp3 stack refused to do and is a breeze to set up.

Here's the short version of what I did:

1) download Dewplayer files
2) on server, place your mp3 files and the dewplayer-multi.swf file
3) use code generator on Dewplayer home page, inserting correct name/location of your mp3 files. Copy resulting code and modify it to reflect location of the dewplayer-multi.swf file. Create snippet containing the modified code.
4) if not using popup window, just drag the snippet to where ever you want the player to appear.

If using popup, these additional steps:
5) create small, simple page to be the popup window, drag the code snippet onto it, add whatever text you want; disable "show in menu".
6) create code to open the popup and link it to whatever page/part of your site from which you want to launch the popup.

And here are the full details:

1) at the Dewplayer site, download the player and other files, and use the code generator tool to on their home page to create the code to insert on your RapidWeaver page, choosing from the various options offered: http://www.alsacreations.fr/dewplayer-en.

I opted to use their multi-player, to place the mp3s and the Dewplayer files on a folder on my server called "music" and to use full path names although I'm not sure this part is necessary. (If you'd rather use their playlist version, see here:
http://www.realmacsoftware.com/forums/index.php/forums/viewthread/27415.)

The only files that needed to be on my server were (a) dewplayer-multi.swf and (b) the actual mp3 files. In the part of the code generator that asks for URL(s) of the mp3 files, I inserted this:

http://www.americancolonycr.com/music/2am_beaut.mp3|http://www.americancolonycr.com/music/1col_gem.mp3|http://www.americancolonycr.com/music/3anchors.mp3|http://www.americancolonycr.com/music/4battle.mp3|http://www.americancolonycr.com/music/5rolling.mp3|http://www.americancolonycr.com/music/6marine.mp3| http://www.americancolonycr.com/music/7fanfare.mp3

I then copied the code that was generated, and modifed it to show the location of the dewplayer-multi.swf file. My resulting code looked like this (note that I chose the option for auto-start and loop since my player is on a pop-up window):

<object type="application/x-shockwave-flash" data="http://www.americancolonycr.com/music/dewplayer-multi.swf" width="240" height="20" id="dewplayer" name="dewplayer">
[param name="movie" value="dewplayer-multi.swf" /]
[param name="flashvars" value="mp3=http://www.americancolonycr.com/music/2am_beaut.mp3|http://www.americancolonycr.com/music/1col_gem.mp3|http://www.americancolonycr.com/music/3anchors.mp3|http://www.americancolonycr.com/music/4battle.mp3|http://www.americancolonycr.com/music/5rolling.mp3|http://www.americancolonycr.com/music/6marine.mp3| http://www.americancolonycr.com/music/7fanfare.mp3&autostart=1&autoreplay=1&bgcolor;="003366" /]
</object>

I saved this code as a snippet in RW. If you don't want to use a popup page, just drag the generated/modified code snippet onto whatever page you want the player to appear.

2) My group wants visitors to be able to keep music playing continuously while browsing the site, so I created a very simple page to serve as the popup window (no menu, sidebar, etc. -- just a small header image, the player code and general instructions for using it. I disabled "the show in menu" option for the page. I used a blocks page for this, although I might re-do it with styled text. I also used the blockbox theme for this page only, since it makes it easy to create a 300 px wide, stripped down page.

I created an image to serve as a prominent link to the player and used code found here (options for text or image link) to launch the popup: http://www.dreamincode.net/code/snippet214.htm

My modified code, which I placed in the sidebar body, is an image link:

[update: oops. see post below for this]

Design disclaimer: I used a rather large and somewhat garish image to serve at the launcher for the popup, because it was the only way I could convince the president of the group whose site I'm making to forego having music play automatically as soon as the site loads.
What I want is that the Web site at: http://wmocradio.net display a flash element ONLY to desktop users who might have it installed.

I specifically want to avoid the loading delay and error that happens on ALL mobile devices because of the Flash element present.
Even using the Agent-X stack like I am from Doobox, this element still pops an error on all mobile devices. Any ideas?

Can I make my blog in RW and have it hosted at an existing host? If so how?
What about simply writing pages on RW and calling it a blog? Can I do that? Can I set it up so folks can get an RSS feed off of that? How?

Sorry if this sounds like a shameless plug...but it is! I was looking through Rapidweaver forums on how to integrate a calendar into a Rapidweaver site and all roads seem to lead to the rather Google calendar which is fine albeit rather dull in it's appearance. Then I discovered localendar http://www.localendar.com/elsie

The basic version is free and has a sensible array of options and preferences for manipulating its appearance and interactive capabilities. Too many useful features to mention here, some of them are really rather sophisticated.

One creates the calendar on the localendar website (enabling you or your client to add to the calendar without using Rapidweaver) and it automatically generates plain HTML code or code for an iframe. A new feature is a Pinterset style (image+text block) format which shows only those days where events occur. If you click on any particular event it also shows a pop up window in which you can place the complete details of that event including images. It's nothing short of brilliant.

Here is a link to the kind of calendars you can create
http://www.localendar.com/calendar/online-calendar-samples

Hi there,

I have recently been asked by a friend to make a website for him that which is basically a one stop shop for a sporting club that runs a number of different sporting events. He needs to have the various different events listed so that people can choose which one they wish to compete in and then once they click on that event they are somehow able to pay the enrolment/registration fee for that event. Obviously this needs to be done securely and without hassle. I would also need to generate a confirmation email or page for them to print.

So here is my question, would it better to run with some type of shopping cart for this or is there a cleaner easier way. I've done a few RW sites before but nothing that required this kind of interactivity so i'm really lost.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Hello,

This is something I was asked about by a client a few weeks ago, and I decided to writeup my findings and present this information as a 'how to' for other RapidWeaver users:
http://www.willwoodgate.com/index_files/automatically-linking-to-new-blog-posts.html

This is useful if you maintain a blog via RapidWeaver or another publishing platform. A free service like TwitterFeed monitors your blog RSS feed for new articles. When new articles are published, TwitterFeed publishes the blog entry title and link to your Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn or App.net account automatically.

It serves as a useful method to promote your blog. Also you can use basic analytics to monitor your links and see how many people are clicking through to your website from different social media platforms. So all-in-all, it's a useful, free service some of you may wish to try.
My client does not want a ecommerce setup at this time, all orders will just go his email by submitting an order form. The trick is, that he wants all the products listed in their rightful categories, so its an order as you go instead of just going to one main order form and picking your products. Is there a way i can include a drop down/text field next to each product for quantity only and then it all is collected on the final submission form/cart. Without requesting payment from a credit card? Hope this makes sense. I feel like i might just need some code written and drop into the iframe, but i need it all to collectively update on the final order form somehow...
thanks.
I have gone to library/application support/Rapidweaver and moved the theme to the trash but upon re installing it it is exactly as it was when it stopped working.

Any other way of uninstalling it that might get it to go back to default?
