Getting a bespoke theme made

Rich_BRich_B Posts: 2Members
Hi guys,

Please bare with me here as I am a real novice when it comes to website building.

I've just purchased rapid Weaver a few days ago after getting many recommendations that it is the best application for dummies like myself who are attempting to build their own website for the first time.

The first thing I notice when looking at the initial rapid Weaver package is that none of the themes provided are quite what I am looking for. Next I've looked around at a few sites that are recommended in this forum and still can't find a theme that I really like.

So, with this in mind I'm trying to find out how I would go about;

A) getting a theme designed to my own specification.

or

B) Designing one myself.

As I said, I'm a real novice at this so go easy on me.

Cheers.

Rich.

    You can go tot he Rapidweaver Advanced page http://www.realmacsoftware.com/rapidweaver/advanced/ and check out the SDK info to get you started.

    I'm not sure which sites you've visited, but be sure to spend an hour or so looking at the themes here before you invest in a bespoke theme or try to roll your own:

    Unlike the very basic themes that come with RapidWeaver, most/many third party themes can be heavily customized, which includes positioning of items, replacement of header image with your own, and setting of colors for most/all elements. You need to keep this in mind as you evaluate off-the-shelf themes. What's fixed with themes is: the nature of the navigation (though many themes come with multiple navigation options you can turn off/on), the behavior of the navigation, overall shape of the page, basic positioning of page elements (though this can often be tweaked in the theme). So you may want to visit the above site and look at third party themes in a new light.

    If you do decide you'd like a bespoke theme made, I suggest getting a LinkedIn account if you don't already have one and posting your request in the RapidWeaver xperts group:

    Thanks guys. I think I see myself going down the readymade theme route. I'll check out the third party themes you recommend and see where it gets me.

    Cheers.

    Rich.
