I asked this quick question one day on Twitter and got a couple replies to it, however, I'm wondering...

In todays world with so many "mobile" devices to use to surf/browse the web does RW need more Themes that work on those devices?

I think that would be a great option to have... I would think that companies that have web presence would want to have a similar option for mobile devices. I think personally that all developers should add this option to their themes, so a designer can simply check a box and the site is also constructed for a mobile device.

I understand that this may not be simple to do for you guys - the theme developers, but maybe there is a way to create a plugin you can add to your already developed RW site, that does this automatically and uses the theme chosen?

    Just some ideas....

Yes, it does. And I think (hope) you'll see a lot more theme developers putting them out. We were the first to do so, with Unity and Glide, but since then Nick has added an iPhone-enabled version to his E Flux theme and there will no doubt be more coming out from other developers.

I'd love to see more options for supporting mobile devices, but I get worried when I see conversations like this in the Mac world, too many Mac developers seem to think supporting the iPhone is all that needs to happen. I use a Nokia touch screen, and I rarely see people using iPhones, here in Spain they're still a bit of a novelty, so I'd like make sure themes or plugins also support the other main screen types.

This is a very interesting discussion and based on conversations I've had with others, it seems opinion is very divided on what support the iPhone needs. I hinted to two people a few weeks ago that I was thinking about adding an "iPhone mode" to the new News Media theme I'm currently working on.

The first person said this was great, just what RapidWeaver needed more of. The second person suggested this was OK, but actually iPhone users would rather see a 'full' website, rather than a watered-down version. So I guess opinion in that respect is divided.

Not being an iPhone / iPod touch owner myself, it is very difficult to gauge what sort of functionality would need to be added to themes. This is probably the reason for a lack of themes with iPhone functionality. Until I can get my hands on a shiny new iPod touch, I can't really plan or develop much. But in the new theme I'm working on, I added a style switcher, so I presume it would be easy to code an iPhone stylesheet and then give users the option to view the site in "iPhone mode".

What would be very interesting to know from my perspective (and probably others) is what sort of functionality iPhone users would be seeking in terms of page layout, site navigation etc. Mainly, what differentiates between a normal website and an iPhone website?

About the only examples I've come across are listed here: http://abduzeedo.com/25-great-examples-iphone-optimized-sites

I'm glad to see that I could spark a conversion amongst Theme Devs and Users.

Unfortunately not everyone has an iPhone.
