GoDaddy Publishing Help

As far as I know, I'm ready to publish. I've looked through a few tutorials on more the design-based parts of RapidWaever, but nothing on publishing. I've already purchased my domain, and I'm just looking for either some help on getting it published, or some resources to look through.

I have not tried the and FTP upload yet, as I'd much rather just go through the 'Publish' option.

Thanks.

In the Publishing setting for the Project you just need to enter the information you were provided by GoDaddy...

    For example ...

You may want to check into another service. I used GoDaddy and could not directly publish to them through Rapidweaver. I had to export the site then used Cyberduck to FTP the site up. Spend a long time on the phone with them before finally just giving up and moving over to Little Oak.

    Just my two cents,

I use godaddy.com and have had no problems with them.

Is this your sole website on your hosting account, or do you have more than one url that you're using?

Regardless, the first field (server) is the site you're uploading to.

The second (username) is either your godaddy customer number or user name.

The third (password) is your password.

The fourth field you only need to worry about if it's not the primary url you're uploading to. For instance, my main site is www.ariessun.com. I have another url at www.alchemyphotography.com. Aries Sun is my main one, Alchemy Photography is the secondary account, so I had to create a path with my hosting to differentiate the two. Alchemyphotography.com automatically routes to ariessun.com/alchemy. That's what the path field does. You probably don't have to worry about it.

Ok, that seemed to work to publish from RW. What steps do I have to take after that in order to get it up and running? I've tried visiting the url, but there's nothing there yet.

So it uploaded properly and RW said that it finished?

Correct. I assumed there was maybe a waiting period prior to the site actually getting up. So far there's nothing though.

edit: It's "up" if you could cal it that. The site's a mess now.

Did you specify any paths or anything like that?

What's the url, if you don't mind me asking?

I only have one url, I specified a path as "index" because it didn't seem to work otherwise. The url is jacksclevername.com.

    "index" is not a path.?.

You need to download a 3rd party FTP client such as Cyberduck. Enter the settings as provided by GoDaddy and then you will be able to see your Host Directory.

Here is some info from GoDaddy - FTP How-To and Accessing.

    Check out wwwjacksclevername.com/index

Looks good. Try just using a slash for the path, see if that works.

As I mentioned, I spent two hours on the phone with their representative and he was basically no help because the site would not publish to the path they sent me. That is why I changed. Obviously from what I am reading from another person here and elsewhere in the forums, I am not the only person who's had issues publishing with Rapidweaver to Go Daddy.

I am not saying that GoDaddy is a bad service but my experience has soured me from using them because of the Rapidweaver publishing issues. Although I used Dreamweaver for years, I have grown especially fond of Rapidweaver and find that it is my first choice for producing sites. Hence the publishing issues with GoDaddy will keep me from recommending them to clients who I produce sites for.

Again, just my two cents and experience,

I have had no problem publishing to GoDaddy hosted sites. Just an FYI, I choose their linux hosted sites. If you have a windows hosted site, this may not apply.

    Just follow these instructions.

Log into your GoDaddy account at godaddy.com

In the left sidebar, click on "Hosting". This should take you to a list of your hosted accounts.

In the middle of the screen there should be a list of hosted accounts, or just the one if this is the only site you have.

Click on "Manage Account" - Another window will pop up, so make sure you are not blocking pop ups.

In the new Hosting Control Center window, click on settings.

Then click on manage FTP users. Create an FTP user and password. This is going to be different that your account username and password. You can create multiple FTP users for each hosted account.

Write the FTP username and password down so you don't forget. If sometime in the future you do forget, just go into this same panel and click reset password.

Now from RW go into publishing settings and under server type "ftp.yoursite.com"
Username is the FTP username you have setup
Password is the FTP user password you have set up
The default path is the root directory so leave blank

    I hope that helps.

So I'm getting there. The content is there, but it's missing the images and formatting that I had. Any idea what the reason for that would be?

    It should look like this:

    hi folks
am completely new at web design, hosting companies, domains & such. i found rapidweaver to be pretty easy to learn but very complete. no complaints with rapidweaver. my problem is that i signed up at godaddy for my domain & web hosting. they have alot of creative advertising to lure you in but their site is anything but user friendly. am looking for a new hosting service for my other web sites as godaddy lost me as a client in less than a week. would like some feed back, good or bad, on some decent hosting services out there.

Hi can you please clarify how you use the 4th field with godaddy? I am posting for a client that several sites on her godaddy account.

The main site is: alwaysanadventurecharters.com The site I want to post to is: mysandiegoacupuncturist.com

So in that fourth field what would I type?

    Thanks,
    Tori

    Should work

Did you put something in the field "User Name" ?
  • ToriSellonToriSellon Posts: 31Members
Yes, of course I put something in the user name, but left it blank in the screenshot for security purposes. Thanks for your help, I resolved the issue by contacting godaddy tech support. They walked me thru setting up a ftp user name and password specifically for that domain.

    Thanks,
    Tori
