I have just set up a shopping cart for a client with Payloom and it all works perfectly, but I am stumped as I can't figure out a way to have it so that shipping rates are higher for areas such as Highlands etc., as the postage is significantly higher for her to send to these areas.
We have sliding postage rates set up at the Paypal end. The only two solutions I can come up with are to add Shipping area as a product, which would work but I can't think of how to incorporate it in a way that my Client would appreciate! The second option would be for buyers who live in these areas to call or email with their requirements - this would be okay I am sure for a temporary measure, but not long term.
I have RapidCart, Payloom and am trialing Cartloom for my own purposes (it's very good!). I can see International options on Carrtloom but not UK Domestic or whatever the term is.
Any advice most appreciated!

It's not ideal, but this issue doesn't seem to be a priority for the makers of the otherwise-great RapidCart.

Each of the products have a choice of options already, but I could have a product at the top with 'select shipping' and for it to include the UK - I was thinking that they would have to select only if they were outside of the mainland and it would be added on to the existing shipping at Paypal. No, it's not ideal, but it would work and you have given me an idea that will be slightly more sophisticated than the one I had yesterday! And, thank you for the link to your website you have also given me a solution for an upcoming birthday present, so I shall return!!
Thanks for taking the time to respond Hamish.

The Stacks creators alone have given me wonderful capabilities I would never have been able to access on my own, and the program's developers and users are always quick to provide answers and workarounds. I figured it was my turn!
All the best,

We are in a panic here as my Client has just had an overseas order (site only up 3 days) and the flat rate UK postage is NOT good. There is a message on the page to say outside of UK mainland they must call but we have no way of stopping people placing orders anyway. I did set up a page that you go to before the shop with select your area, then click on next, but they can still get through to the shop if they want to without selecting area and there would still need to be a sliding scale which would muck up the UK flat rate already set up.
I am racking my brains for a solution here. Have attempted OpenCart trial on my site but can't get beyond the removing magic codes GPC on the php.ini or .htaccess - my hosting service is looking into it. Have looked at various other OS shopping carts (we are on a budget) but haven't found anything that doesn't look a nightmare to integrate
On the positive side, by this time next week I am hoping I will have learnt something new.
Need a strong coffee now
