RapidWeaver 5.1 Release Candidate Now Available!

NikNik Brighton, EnglandPosts: 1,691Realmac Staff
Hello everyone

We're thrilled to make RapidWeaver 5.1 Release Candidate 1 available for testing. Our work on Smart Publishing is now complete, as are all the other planned bugfixes and localisations for this release. So long as no show-stopping bugs are found, we'll be declaring this 'Gold Master' and prepare it for the release process. Please be aware that we'll only be releasing RapidWeaver 5.1 once the Mac App Store version has been approved by Apple. This is to ensure that our versions always match up: should a change be required by Apple, we don't want to have differing version numbers as that causes a great deal of confusion amongst customers.

If you're a Mac App Store customer wanting to run this build, please ensure you've updated your copy of RapidWeaver to version 5.0.4 via the Mac App Store and run that version at least once. This will ensure you're not prompted to enter a serial number when running this build.

Changes in 5.1

Hi Nik; I notice that the 'copy URL to clipboard' in Resources still doesn't work as it should. If you click on the icon as the tooltip suggests, you get nothing. You have to Alt-click on it for it to work. Might confuse a few people?

    Hi Paul

As the resource hasn't been published, there's no URL to copy currently. However, we'll take a look at this post-5.1.

    Cheers

As the resource hasn't been published, there's no URL to copy currently.

But even if it is unpublished, if I Alt-click the clipboard icon, I get this:

    &#xre;source(180px-David_gilmour_CBE.jpg)%

... which is actually useful to me if I'm putting that into some CSS, say, for a header image.

If I simply click it (not Alt-click) on a published site, I get this:

    http://www.paulbradforth.com/test/resources

... which is less than helpful. If I Alt-click the icon on the published site I get:

    &#xre;source((null))%

[sigh] all this would be so much easier if there was some kind of manual.

Downloaded, it seems to work. The big problem remains the connection to MobileMe, which almost surely depends on them.
I am taking steps to migrate my Web Site elsewhere.

I'm not really following the bug report here. Could you email me the steps to replicate this so I can get it ticketed.

    Thanks

No steps really, other than what I've said. It may have looked more complex than it is because the forum altered my pasted code. All it is, is: if you Alt -click on the 'copy URL to clipboard' icon with an unpublished site, you get this:

    ZZ193E7EC5.jpg

... which is handy, because it's the complete macro that you can drop into some CSS. The point is that you have to Alt-click, not click, as the tooltip suggests. And I only found that out by accident, by trying different things just to see if anything worked. If you single click, you get nothing. Not ideal. And if you single click on it with a published site, you get this:

    ZZ1BA8E5D9.jpg

... which is less than helpful as it's just the path to the folder that contains the file, not the whole path with the image name. And if you Alt-click the icon with a published file, you get:

    ZZ51032067.jpg

So it's a mixture of published versus non-published versus Alt-clicking versus direct clicking.

To sum up what I'm talking about: Alt-clicking on an unpublished file gives me useful information that I can incorporate into some CSS, for example, applying a background image to the body tag. But it only gives it to me if I Alt-click, whereas the tooltip if I hover over the icon tells me all I have to do is click it. Not true, confusing, no manual.
    best wishes

This version still is not generating the correct syntax in the navigation links.
    [ul class="navigation"]
    [li][a href="./" rel="self" id="current"][strong]Home[/strong][/a][/li]
    [li][a href="new_pictures.php" rel="self"][strong]New Pictures[/strong][/a][/li]
    [li][a href="signup.php" rel="self"][strong]Sign Up[/strong][/a][/li]
    [/ul]

No matter which setting I use in Setup -]File Links Are: the links stay the same. I need a forward slash inserted so the pages read like /new_pictures.php and /signup.php and have the correct reference from the root directory. Without the slash, all links fail if your URL is not currently a file in the root.

Has it been fixed in RC 5.1 ?

    Hi there

It's not something that's been reported for 5.1, and I believe it may well be. Please give it a go, as we can't look into it until it's confirmed that RapidWeaver 5.1 still suffers this issue.

    Thanks

    Hello,

Is it normal behaviour for all blog posts to be re-published at each change?

I deleted one word from a blog post, and it still re-publised all posts in the standard RW Blog page.

    Hi Peter

Is this in the 5.1 Release candidate or not? If not, give 5.1 a go: we've fixed it up for this release.

    Thanks

I'm trying out 5.1 release candidate and smart publishing. It seems to have fixed the problem with re-publishing everything from the resource folder as it did in 5.0.4. Here's what I'm not getting:

    1. if I change the name of a folder in resources, the new folder gets written but the old one stays on the web server. This leaves a bunch of crud lying around. It seems like it should always make a perfect image of the resource folder including renaming or at least create new and delete the old.

    2. If I manually delete all the items in the resource folder from the web server, I can't seem to get RW to rewrite anything. I've tried a simple Mark As Changed on the file, but this doesn't enable the publish button. I then tried to mark a web page as changed, but the publish did not resurrect the resource files. Lastly I tried to Re-Publish All Files. This published everything, but not the resources.

Has there been any update on the navigation links. DOCROOT should have a forward slash in front of the filename and it doesn't.
Until this is fixed I can't upload any of my sites without changing the nav links manually on the dynamic pages after publishing.

never mind on item 2. It did re-publish... my ftp client was just being goofy. However, it does leave the renamed files in place. maybe not a bug, but a future feature?
  • NikNik Brighton, EnglandPosts: 1,691Realmac Staff
    Hi there

We don't remove or handle files that are already on the server. As such this is the intended behaviour. We'll definitely consider this in the future, but as users tend to upload their own files outside RW at times, we're not likely to implement this in the near future.

    Cheers

MobileMe, same horrible story. And now please tell me again that it depends on MobileMe and not on RapidWeaver.
    Read this sad story, plz:

Here they say that the collaboration between RapidWeaver and MobileMe is far from being perfect. IT IS TRUE!
For me it had become almost impossible to open My Site-sandwich, it said almost always "Not enough storage on MobileMe": I had 15 GB free there!

So I am fed up, I throw away the (paid) subscription to MobileMe and migrate my site on a different hosting service (paid).
I even delete everything on MobileMe.

So what happens now, when I open my Site-sandwich (named "Sito")? Please have a look at the image and, if you have only a bit of heart, weep for/with me!

Does it depend on MobileMe, where I do not have anything left? Or does it depend on RapidWeaver5?
My Web Site is on another server, travels like a rocket in the outer space, ma the d....d RapidWeaver5 does not want to hear about it.
    What can I do? :-( :-( :-( :-( :-( :-(

    Hi Mario

We've been looking into this, and the errors are stemming from MobileMe's end. We're looking into working around these errors in a future update, however this work is not going to make 5.1.

    Thanks

Sorry, Nik, you are not weeping with/for me. I am even afraid you did not understand (it happens).

My Web Site, MY PERSONAL DOMAIN is NO MORE on MobileMe, it is on ANOTHER server, by ANOTHER hosting service. I HAVE NOTHING on MobileMe.

All the browsers and ftp clients have understood this (even the small and easy software I use to check my links).

But for RW5, no way. It goes on merrily connecting with MobileMe, where I DO NOT HAVE ANYTHING! (And it does not find ENOUGH STORAGE!)

So, what do I do? I do not work on my Web Site until the next release of RW?

Very sorry my language is not english, so I can not think anything sufficiently strong to write here

    Hi Mario,

Someone else has the same problem. See how he solved it here - http://www.realmacsoftware.com/forums/index.php/forums/viewthread/46019/ . Hope this helps.

I am very grateful, but this is not my problem: I do not receive the message when I try to PUBLISH.
I DO NOT PUBLISH from RW, I export locally and then UPLOAD in ftp with Transmit

    The problem here is that
    1) the RW file (the "sandwich" .rwsw) DOES NOT OPEN and says I do not have enough storage on MobileMe
    2) BUT I HAVE DELETED my Mobileme Site and Subscription and everything, my PERSONAL DOMAIN IS HOSTED IN ANOTHER PLACE

SO WHY IN THE WORLD RW5 MUST GO ON LOOKING FOR MY STORAGE ON MOBILE ME?
IS MOBILE ME THE OWNER OF RAPIDWEAVER or the owner of my Site or my personal owner?

So your website address in the Site Setup window has changed, as has your chosen Publishing method in RW and you're still seeing this issue?
