Color Store Stack v/1.10 [FREE]

DeFliGraDeFliGra DenmarkPosts: 776Members
edited March 2012 in Announcements
Where do you store the colors you use on your website? In the color picker?

I do. But sometimes I unfortunately delete important colors - especially when I'm working on a large number of websites with a deadline just around the corner... and half a mile to heaven!

Sooooo... I created a simple stack making it easy to store website colors within your stacks page.
A color picker stack... that's what I was trying to say!

[UPDATE 1.10]

Adds sparkle auto update.

[UPDATE 1.07]

Feature to store notes in the stack.
Resize the icon to take up less workspace

[UPDATE 1.06]

Added a feature to text a html color by value.
Added a new color space: White Wash (shades of white).
Corrected a few typos

[UPDATE 1.05]

You might have to remove your prev. versions of ColorStore
from your page and drag a new CS stack onto yoru page - to see changes.

1) For my own pleasure: designed a new color store stack icon + edit-mode icon

colorstore128.png

2) Added an extra Custom Color (#3)
• Changed all custom colors to white... making it easy to see what the cat dragged in ;)

3) Added color schemes:
Cyan + Magenta + Yellow + Red + Green + Blue
All above in the steps: 10-20-30-40-60-70-80-90-100%

4) Added color scheme: CMY10050
Combines 100% and 50% of the colours Cyan, Magenta, Yellow.

5) Added color scheme: 1959-fashion (as inspiration)

6) Added color scheme: Superman1950 (as inspiration)

So nice being able to answer that question...
why did you choose those colors for the website?
Well... I like Superman - kind of make the website fly... don't you think?

If you have some brilliant ideas for color themes you think should be added ... let me know.

The stack is free - download here: http://www.denflinkegrafiker.dk (right corner).
No big science!

Have a nice weekend.

colorstore.png

There are some colour apps aroud doing the same thing - store your colors... doing a decent job. The ColorStore stack is free... it's not big science! It is what it is!

    Super! Thanks for the stack.

But the colorpicker is wrong if I take the magnifing glass and choose a color of my preview in RW.
The color picker gives me a slightly different color.

I think it's a color picker bug or something.

This a great plug-in for use with your color picker..

    Mondrianum by Lithoglyph

It enables Mac OS X apps to explore, create and share color themes you like on Adobe(r) kuler, the online community of color. It is a color picker plug-in that works with any app that supports OS X's built-in color picker system. If you work with colors on a Mac, be sure to check it out!

I think Mondrianum is quite nice... I use it every once in a while.

But but but... the Apple Color Picker could be a lot better - especially the limited area Apple allows users to store colors and the way it works! No controls at all - if you want to delete colors you have to drop a white color on the color you want to delete. Says all! This is 2012 ladies and gents.

I have a couple of color picker 'extensions' installed... quite nice too:

    sl4ak4.jpg

Back from the local beer pusher with a nice Carlsberg Jacobsen Brown Ale :)

There has been quite a lot of discussion about the grouping of stacks amont the developers and Isaiah - tha man in charge. How do we organize the stacks? By category - the way they work, what they do? By developer?

At the moment it's a mix... most developers has chosen to group their stacks by developer name. It's also been discussed if's a good idea to add sub-categories... sub-categories would be nice if you have stacks you need to group together for some reason. Like the GridBoard or FlexGrid Stacks. Or Joe Workmans 12 (think it's 12) image stacks... I have chosen to keep the FlexGrid and GridBoard stacks in seperate categories... not mixing them with my other stacks - because FlexGrid is 10 stacks and GridBoard is 7 stacks... at the moment. I just wish one of my favorite developers would group his 12 image stacks in a separate category. Isaiah on the other hand - the man in charge ' hasen't made any judgement... wisely kind of looking how things will develop!

I'm sure things will change - in the future. More stack developers will arrive. Joe Workman is never sleeping. And Doobox, Stacks4Stacks not to speak of Blueball, Kuler Solutions and Weaver Addons... keep throwing all those wonderful stacks right in our faces...

Sooooo... at the moment - it's up to the developer to choose. Someday... it might change. One could wish for a 'Favorite'-folder where you could store all your favorite stacks :)

I've added 3 CustomColor Zones... if more is needed - you can add more ColorStore Stacks... giving you 3 more.

But to add custom colors / color schemes to the stacks info pane... you'd have to dig into the heart of the stack. No way I can 'open' the info pane for users to add own colors... (I Think).

User wrote me if it's was okay that he had modified the stack - and removed all the color schemes. He wanted a simple stack only with his own colors. And that's okay with me.

I've experienced this... every once in a while. I think that the way colors are measured on a screen depends on many factors ... the item being measured from as well as conversion from different color spaces. But you right... ain't a bullit proof method. But on the other hand... no screen shows the same colours.

    Hi,

I tried to fill the Custom Color swatches by manually enter HSB values to get exactly the colors I want, but when revisiting the swatches again the values have changed.

For example, if I fill one swatch with the HSB 90 80 50, clicking away from it and then clicking it again the values have changed to 92 88 44. This can't have something to do with the color picker, can it?

    Leif

Ps. If someone still want to save the colors in the OSX color picker it is possible to save new color palettes instead of just dragging the colors to the swatches at the bottom (se screenshot).

There is a simple way to reproduce it.

Just take a stack en put another stack in the stack with a bit of padding.

choose a color for the outer stack and fill it.

then for the innerstack, take your magnifying glass and click the color of the outer stack(fill it).

You will see that it's slightly different.

I think it's cause of color conversion... how colors gets measured in different apps / plugins (?)
And the color space you save your colors in... in Apples Color Picker.

    Create a stacks text field.
Type some text. Make it big and bold.
Add a RGB Color from Apples Color Picker (CP).
Measure it while the text is still active. Color doesn't change.

Click somewhere outside the the text field - text not 'active'.
No go measure the color again.... the color changes!

Try the same thing in RapidWeavers 'Styled Text'! Remember to use RGB.

Might have something to do with the way the Stacks Plugin stores the colors... (convers them) ?

Soooo - the conclusion. The world ain't perfect. I have been fighting colors for the past 20 years. Still do... sometimes people complaint about the colors we print. 'It's the wrong colors - it's not the colors I chose. It doesn't look like the colors on my screen - the printer must have used some wrong colors or something... :)

That's why my favorite color is black... turn off the lights - then all colors are the same.

Thank you for the very nice stack. I look forward to checking this out.

In my opinion the finest color tool for the Mac is Tangerine. It is too expensive at $40 but it is very nice.
