Embed tweets into wp-blog page issues

Not sure if there is a code fix or widget problem or what. I cannot seem to embed a tweet into a blog post. RW 4.4 w/ wp-blog.
Tried every plugin and the embed code from Twitter; added the widget js to functions, etc. The code either makes it a block quote with the RW theme (which I don't want), fails to load from Twitter or adds a bunch of white space around the embedded tweet without allowing me to format, align, wrap text.
Is this something not compatible w/ RW, or wp-blog? A theme issue? Running out of things to try.
