Thinking of Giving Up: Images Disappearing in Stacks AGAIN

Is anyone else having images disappear in RW using Stacks? I have had it happen so often, that I am not thinking of giving up on Stacks and RapidWeaver all together. It is such a headache. I am using time machine just because of this ONE issue now and it is driving me crazy. Every so often, everything just disappears. Why in the darn world can't stacks easily store and use images? They need to keep it simple and easy and it is NOT. I am sort of a pro with rapidweaver after 6+ years and I love stacks, but this might be the straw that breaks the RW back. Rw without stacks is not worth a whole lot in my book. Sorry to rant. But, need someone's shoulder : )

Make sure that in Preferences you have consolidate css off.

Have you talked to Isaiah at YourHead? best to see if he can shed any light on the problem - also have you updated Stacks to 2.0.7?

Hope one of those gives a little relief.

Hi, Thanks Bill for your comment. I am not sure what is going on, but I am running Stacks 2.0.7 It seems to happen mostly when I leave my website open for a few days to make small changes. Then, I come back and at some point the images are gone. It is a headache and I think I have gotten a good file again thanks to Time Machine, but I hate being scared like that. I will def try RW beta. I like to wait until some bugs are worked out, but it seems like people are liking it. Thanks again! Thomas

Wow! Thanks so much Nik : ) Maybe they can do a reworking of stacks so that images are protected. It seems like it should be easy, in theory. It would be nice if they simply had an images folder where stacks pulled the images from and we knew it was secure. For the images to simply disappear, a real bummer. It scares the heck out of me!

The image dissapearing problem is one of the issues that should have been fixed in latest Stacks version. Only a small nummer of people were affected - problem was caused by a serial of special conditions.

I had an issue - but must be 1,5 years ago - maybe more... I saved a copy of the file... and used a backup file instead. You know what - suddenly - after a Stacks upgrade and a mention og the problem - I checked - all my images came back. Back then I didn't know what caused the problem, if it was rw, stacks or because my file was stored in dropbox. Only images in image stacks were affected - not images in text stacks. I might have been one of the first with this problem, nobody had a clue. Lucky for me - I stored many images in text fields! And had a backup.

As always when this kind of bugs pops up - give as much information, as you can... Stacks version, when did you upgrade - when did the problem occur first time, OS version, copy of your rw doc... can you replicate the issue... be as detailed as you can. And - get in touch with the developer.

I also suffer form this issue. Emphasis on "suffer". I usually only notice the missing images once the site has been published, after a customer point sit out to me. I'm using the latest versions of stacks and RW.

I've tried contacting the developer ("Isaiah") several times in the past...never gotten a response.

Twin Lance, I totally hear you when you say it scares you... My stomach drops when it happens to me such a huge pain in the ass. It has happened to me several times... Its hard to even describe what happens because i cant isolate one thing I am doing to make it happen. I try to be very careful to save all of the time... yikes...

I am taking advice of Nik and unchecking consolidate CSS preferences.. to see if this solves issue...

This was also posted somewhere in this forum ages ago, and I had completely forgotten about it. Text stacks will hold all kinds of stuff, text, image files etc. I have had problems with images missing and repetitive crashes. I am just an ordinary user, not a computer programmer or even remotely close, but my error logs mention a leak and other stuff that I have read is making me wonder if the image stack has a leak issue?

Same problem here for some time now. No fix apparently from Yourhead, though they are releasing a new beta version of Stacks.
