RapidWeaver 5.3 Beta 3 Now Available!

NikNik Brighton, EnglandPosts: 1,691Realmac Staff
Hi Guys

Today we're pleased to announce that RapidWeaver 5.3 Beta 3 is now in public beta. We've been working behind the scenes to improve RapidWeaver's stability and performance, as well as prepare the app for Mountain Lion and the discontinuation of MobileMe.

RapidWeaver 5.3, in a change to our previously-announced plans, will run on Mac OS X 10.5, 10.6, 10.7 and (when it launches) 10.8.

We've made a number of important changes to ensure that RapidWeaver runs on Mountain Lion - in particular, to make sure it's ready for Gatekeeper.

http://www.apple.com/macosx/mountain-lion/features.html#gatekeeper

The changes made to support Gatekeeper mean that you'll get prompted to allow RapidWeaver to access your Keychain when publishing each site for the first time after launching RapidWeaver 5.3, even if you're not on Mountain Lion.

Changes in RapidWeaver 5.3

- Removed MobileMe publishing
- Added warnings and pre-flighting to warn users about MobileMe's disappearance.
- Lots of behind the scenes changes to make RapidWeaver more robust and stable.
- Fixed an issue where Resources located on an un-mounted remote server would cause RapidWeaver to indefinitely load a project file. *

* Denotes new in this build.

Known Issues

- This build is not localised.

Download RapidWeaver 5.3 Beta 3 Now

Please be aware that this is pre-release software. It may have bugs and we recommend that if you're unhappy with the risks of using pre-release software that you do not install this build.

If you run into any issues, please contact us directly - support at realmacsoftware dot com - and ensure that the title of the email includes a mention of RapidWeaver 5.3 Beta 3.

Download Link: http://downloads.realmacmedia.com/rapidweaver-5-betas/rapidweaver_530_beta3.zip

Thanks for your continued support - and let me know if you come across any issues!

We will be issuing one further beta of RapidWeaver 5.3 - when the localisations are complete - however unless any showstopper issues are found with this beta, we will not be making any further code-level changes for RapidWeaver 5.3.

Kind Regards,

—Nik

there is only one change to the beta2 (indefinitely loading)?
would you be so kind and post a short note in the current beta thread when a new beta is released?
great the hear that the final release is only one step away :)
    best wishes- kai.

    Hi Kai

Any items that changed between this and the last build are noted by an asterisk - the only change being the indefinite loading.

I'll post in the thread now - apologies for that, I've been preparing 5.3 for localisation this morning :)

    Cheers

    Nik-
Also appears that page snapback (rubberband effect) when scrolling to the top or bottom of a window is broken when viewing project in Preview mode. I kept scrolling and the window kept getting bigger, never snapping back. See attached screen shot:

    Emailing support as well.

    HI Kevin

Thanks for the email: we've not been able to replicate this but we're continuing to look into it.

I am not sure it this is a rw thing but I have one site where rw (?) does forget the ftp password everytime I close and open the project file. this behaviour has not changed in the betas.
  • ColorwaveColorwave A rock in the middle of the Pacific OceanPosts: 1,174Members
I seem to be getting an FTP publishing error unless I hit the Test Connection button before each publish. When I do that, it says that that the connection was successfully tested, and will then publish correctly. This behavior only seems to happen the first time I publish in a particular session.

"open recent" does not work with this beta.
  • mitchellmmitchellm Posts: 1,858Members
"Open recent" works fine for me. Must be a particular setup that causes it to not work.

    I'm using a MacBookPro 2011, 10.7.4

v5.3b3 is still crashing for me when switching from Preview to Edit mode while the Webkit Inspector is active. I first reported this prob to RMS back in Sep 2011 when RW was at v5.2.1. I'm on a Mid-2010 MBP 15", OS X 10.7.4.

I'm also able to replicate this crash on an iMac which just had a fresh OS X 10.7.2 install. No 3rd party RW plugins.

    Anyone else encountering this?
    Steps to replicate this:
    1. Launch RW, New Project
    2. Add Page (e.g.: Styled Text) (My default theme is Alpha)
    3. Go to Preview Mode (Command-R or the button at the bottom)
    4. Right click in Preview mode and Inspect Element
    5. Command-R to switch back to Edit Mode
    6. Crash

In step 5, switching back to Edit Mode using the button at the bottom is OK, crash only occurs if I use Command-R.

    Hi there

We're still investigating the problem with the Web Inspector and we're planning to address it in a future update.

@mitchellm I was trying to delete the prefs of rw for this and other reasons. but when I do this all the registrations of everything (plugins, stacks etc) are lost. so I choose to live with some bugs.
  • soonwaisoonwai Kuala LumpurPosts: 240Members
@nik Thanks for the update. It's been a few months since I last checked with you (Nov 2011), I was hoping that the prob would have been fixed. Hope it'll be in the next beta.

  • NikNik Brighton, EnglandPosts: 1,691Realmac Staff
@soonwai As soon as it's fixed it'll be listed in the release notes. It won't, however, make RapidWeaver 5.3.0 as we're now locked for release and awaiting final localisations. The last beta will be later this week, with the only changes being complete localisations. I can't give an ETA for it, but it's something we know folks are experiencing and we're working on it.

If you have two RapidDocuments open at a time - dobbelt clicking an image - to open the Media Editor (Image Settings) - could be a styled text page or a stacks text box - opens two Media Editor panels.

If you only have one RW document open - it only opens one Media Editor panel. Guess what happens if you have more RW documents open at a time... ;) Doesn't happen if you dobbelt click the image in the sidebar though.

This is an issue with the current version of RapidWeaaver as well.

If I have two projects open at the same time and switch between the projects by moving one of the windows into the foreground the content in the page info panel (page inspector) does NOT change. this continues to be not only confusing but also a problem if you need to compare projects and/or copy contents from one project into the other.
  • ColorwaveColorwave A rock in the middle of the Pacific OceanPosts: 1,174Members
I believe that has always been RW's behavior. I get around it by clicking on the button to close the info window, and then reopen it. It doesn't seem to always work as expected, though, so often I change pages to make sure that I'm viewing the project that I think I am. A more predictable process would indeed be nice.
  • mitchellmmitchellm Posts: 1,858Members
I'm now getting weird behavior around "Open Recent". Often if I try to select a recent file from the menu, then nothing happens. Then if I go into finder and double-click on the relevant file it does not open up.

I can only "fix" by quitting RW, restarting, etc. I don't know that I've captured the full "weirdness" of this behavior, but it certainly wasn't present in earlier versions of RW, and it was not present (as far as I could tell) in beta 2.
  • skaicaptainskaicaptain Hamburg, GermanyPosts: 276Members
@Colorwave this behaviour is not new - that's true. but I always thought it is a bug and used the opportunity of this beta test to mention it. clicking on the page info button does not help most of the time with me neither.

@mitchellm same here I thought I was the only one experiencing this. restarting seems to help but not for long.

    Hi Guys

We've not been able to replicate the "Recent Items" issue with the release candidate, which we've now posted:

    http://forums.realmacsoftware.com/discussion/57137/rapidweaver-5-3-release-candidate-now-available

If you could provide some more concrete steps to replicate it we'd appreciate it!

Thanks for all your feedback with this release!

    Nik,

Easier to show you. Download the following 2 minute movie. The steps to create the problem are (hopefully) clear and replicable. Here's the download link:
    http://tinyurl.com/7a4qn79

Let me know if this provides a better picture of what's happening.
  • NikNik Brighton, EnglandPosts: 1,691Realmac Staff
Thanks for the bug report. I definitely can't replicate this here on our test machines. Is there anything in the Console log for your Mac that might offer some insight

    Cheers!

Nik: Have sent email just now. I'm only around about 3 more hours, then off traveling and away from internet for 4 days. Included FormLoom plugin with email.

BTW, I don't seem to be able to connect to the YabDab site. Are they still in business? (Or maybe I'm just trying to connect at a time when their website is down for maintenance.)
  • NikNik Brighton, EnglandPosts: 1,691Realmac Staff
Thanks Mathew for sending it over. We've been able to replicate the issue. It appears to be related to an issue in the FormLoom plugin which I'll be talking to the YabDab folks about now.

    Kind Regards,
