Backup Designer???

AllanVAllanV Posts: 4Members
Hello. I always like to think ahead... what if this... what if that.

I'm working on a new site for a non-profit pet rescue. Non-profit = not charging for labor :-)

I've recently purchased a bunch of needed stacks and theme. I have one computer that can run RW and has all the stacks, files, etc. I am the only RW designer (and a beginning one at that) in my area that I know of (SW-Michigan/US).

If another RW designer did have the same stacks and theme that I used, and they had my website login info... would they be able to pull the info from the online website, make changes, and re-publish? What if the designer only had Dreamweaver or other non-RW program?

Thanks!
Allan

In a word, No!! Or, I should qualify that, by saying not within RW. They would need all the RW project files and resources from your computer. What gets published to the internet is the raw html, css and javascript that RW produces when it 'Exports' your project. You can not reconstitute a RW project from the files published to the internet.

If he had Dreamweaver, then yes, he could download the published files, make changes and republish. He would have to be a pretty compentent developer to do so in my opinion.

Thanks Jeremy. Guess I need to work on an appropriate backup plan.

I use RW in conjunction with my flatmate to edit the site we have set up. We use dropbox to exchange the files. As long as you dont work on it at the same time, and have a file with all your needed materials it seems to work pretty well.

If you want to have a look at this link, Joe Workman talks about the use of dropbox in conjunction with rapidweaver. http://www.joeworkman.net/blog/tag-Dropbox

    hope this helps you out

Yeah, looks like a good idea to use dropbox like that. Thanks!

I use Dropbox a lot too...very handy if you use a desktop PC when at home/office, but a laptop when you are away from said desktop.
