Hi everybody,
I have a website on-line: www.cittadinodelmondo.com
It is very heavy because there are so many photos uploaded, so I thought I can realize 2 versions of that site.
- One for DESKTOP, complete of all the photos
- Other one for MOBILE (iPhone, iPad,...) with only some photo.
Because, If you try to access to my website with a mobile, the browser it will be close after less time. I did some testing, and depends only because I have too many photos!
I would not remove them, at least for the full version.
Soonwai user of this forum tells me about www.nimblehost.com/store/mobilize so I read the description of the plugin and seems to be what I'm looking for but I need more information.
My questions are about the structure of the site and it's management.
I'll Try to explain better and I'll apologize with you if my questions are silly, but I'm not an expert user and this is my first website!
I have only 1 domain. How can I use Mobilize? I need a new domain? or the two different versions of the site can be uploaded in the same domain?
If I can use the same domain for each version, What i have to do to upload the two different sites?
I hope there are someone that he can explain this to me like I'm a child 5 years old...
This is my domain where you can find the desktop version: www.cittadinodelmondo.com
Now the site is uploaded automatically by RW on this domain in folders automatically creates RW!
Many thanks in advance for any replies and have you a good day to all!

Mobilize works as a redirect and you will need two sites: a main desktop version and a mobile version. You simply need to set up a subdomain with your website host and publish your mobile version of the site there. Call it "m.cittadinodelmondo.com", for example.
Next, install Mobilize onto your main desktop site and follow its instructions.
When a person from a mobile devise types your main site's domain, they will be redirected to the mobile version of your site residing in the newly created subdomain. Mobilize can also allow desktop users who type in the sub domain URL to be redirected to the main desktop site.

You will also need to change each of your page extensions from .html to .php for this to work. You do this in the Page Inspector for each page. This is very easy to do - but it's vital for Mobilize to work. See screenshot below.
No need to purchase anything over and above Mobilize. You web-hosting provider should allow you to easily create sub-domains. All of the files from your new mobile site will go into their own folder on your server...and the subdomain will point to that folder.
Mobilize has a great set of instructions for you to follow - it's built right into the Stack. In one of the screenshots below, you can see how I have desktop browsers going to one URL and iPads going to a different URL (this is taken from my mobile phone site). Just follow the six steps, and you'll be good to go in no time.
If you get stuck, Jonathan's support is first-rate. He has a full time assistant who monitors both email and Twitter. The last time I asked a question on Twitter, I had my answer in less then five minutes (turned out to be an issue with the theme I was using...but I was provided a work-around).
In spite of my glowing report, I don't know Jonathan - I'm just a very satisfied customer. Oh, and along those lines, if you're looking for a mobile theme - check out Phelix. It's fantastic! I have over twenty sites on the web built with it. You can see a couple here and here. But - they need to be viewed on an iPhone/Android/Windows phone - they look much different on a desktop browser.
Good luck - let us know how it works out!
Cheers,
Dave
As Dave pointed out all the pages need to be .php extensions. Since RapidWeaver doesn't delete files from your Host, you will want to use a 3rd Party FTP client, and delete the current publish that you have of your site. Otherwise, if you publish without doing that you will have both the .html extensions and the .php extensions and Mobilize will not work.
Web hosts will 'serve' .html pages over .php pages if both exist in the same location.
You can also contact NimbleHost support if you have any issues from the NimbleHost web site.
