Formsnap Update - WARNING!

shanemoshanemo Posts: 270Members
All Formsnap stacks have been updated.

This is warning to those planning to update - they may break your current forms.

Radio buttons and checkboxes pagination have gone crazy. attached pic.

And this is CRAZY:

You can no longer choose custom height and width of text areas and text fields!!!!!

they force you to choose a width from a fixed dropdown list, and all text areas and text fields are the same height.

disastrous release IMO.

Absolutely disastrous...can't believe a developer would completely alter how their product works, such that it destroys a customer's website--and to do it without any warning whatsoever to top it off!

I had actually published the form after updating the stacks,so it was sitting in a production environment for half a day before I noticed the page was completely buggered.

    Time Machine saved the day.

    Bad form, YabDab, BAD FORM!!!

Thanks a lot for that posts, saved my ass! All forms I built with FormSnap turned into a layout-mess with the new version, so I was glad to be able to got back to the old version using TimeMachine. Perfect example how to put massive damage to a so far superb product. Instead of adding some smarter kinds of form validation or s.th. else useful ... It's a shame. :-/

Submitted a support ticket and they ask me to check latest updates and gave an explanation for the changes:
Yes, this was done to make FormSnap responsive and work within popular frameworks such as twitter bootstrap which utilizes a 12 span layout.

Unfortunately my radio and checkboxes are still broken, they re-instated the option of custom height for text areas, but still force you to choose from their fixed widths.

I dislike the fact that they did it without warning and even the update info was sketchy at best, no mention of the text areas.

Uniform is also now deprecated without warning. Which means all forms you have published which use the Uniform js form elements are broken.

Reverted to previous version and won't probably be able to upgrade ever again.

    WHAT A COMPLETE WASTE.

Thank goodness for Time Machine, and thanks to Deralict for the tip. I too probably won't ever be able to upgrade again, which is a damn shame because it was a great little form. :-(

They could at least solve this bullsh... situation by giving us both: the fine old version and the disastrous new version as two different Stack-Sets which can be installed side by side. This would really be the best solution in my opinion ...

We understand that our recent updates to the FormSnap stacks have cause issues for a small number of our clients. In an attempt to bring a more uniform UX across all our product offerings, some things may look different than before.

Our ultimate goal is to implement the same styling of form elements in all our products.

We are have released updates to address these matters and encourage users to email us with any questions they may have.

    Have a nice day :)

Ugh, wish I'd seen this BEFORE I updated! My once lovely forms are now a mess. Is there some way to revert to my "old" forms, or do I have to start from scratch?

Email us and give us details. It is likely a very easy fix.

Mike, I just sent you an e-mail showing the old and new versions of the form. Obviously it would be embarrassing for me to keep the new version active on my site for very long, so if you know of a simple fix it would be very much appreciated!

Simply check the "label on top" option in the base stack under style. This will fix most issues you are seeing. The latest update now has this checked by default on new projects.

Did try the new version on a client site and everything worked quite flawless: http://www.naturheilpraxis-withum.de/gutscheine/
With a little bit of CSS tweaking I've been able to adjust most of the form as I needed it.
Still angry about the way of pushing out this update without communicating the consequences this will have for many client sites. But for now I've decided to use the new version for new sites and temporarily install the old version for my work on older sites (did collect the old version in a zip-archive which I can unpack and install when I need it).

I have got my forms fixed now but wish I had seen this thread before updating. What other options are there for creating forms on RW? Seems that Yabdab are the only game in town for forms stacks.

Cheers. Might try that out for only $6.

If you get it, let us know how you find the product. On another thread someone mentioned another product that looked very good indeed but costs $69. The $$ amount is certainly worth it if you use lots of forms, especially complicated forms.

But I have to imagine for most people, most of the time, a simpler and cheaper alternative would be desirable as long as it works well and easily. Would love to hear more about this product when in the hands of a RW user.

@mitchellm Hi do you remember what the other was called and would it allow you to add JavaScript calculations etc?

    Thanks

    Rusty

Rusty: here's the link to the suggested product:
    http://www.coffeecup.com/osx/web-form-builder/

I've never used this product, so I don't know the details. But either their website will tell you the answer, or you can email them direct.

Could you let us know what you find out? Why are javascript calculations useful? (Not trying to make a point, just ignorant and curious.)

Thanks I'll have a look into it ..
At the moment we send out lots of forms I make up in Acrobat Pro using javascript calculations for school orders .. just wondered if it would be possible to do it with an online form that wouldn't cost the earth .. =-)

    thanks again

Rusty: Aha, that makes complete sense (re: javascript). Let us know what you find out. For a first class, relatively easy, form builder I'd be willing to invest a bit. Unfortunately it's not an immediate need for me, and thus I don't have the time to investigate. Could be a very useful tool for me in about 9 months due to some long-range projects. But it would need to be significantly more reliable, powerful, and useful than FormLoom. (And it may be, just don't know.)

You should see what Mike Y. of Yabdab says on Twitter about people on this forum:

"It’s a shame the RMS forums are full of trolls"

This was posted on the 22nd, the same day he started responding on here. I've seen him do this exact same thing before. Seemingly being helpful on here but then being nasty on twitter. What a jerk! I regret ever giving this joker my money.

I've been here a while now on RW forum and I must say, this forum has grown again to a good helpful forum with lots of people helping each other. I haven't seen a troll in a long time.

Mike, please think twice before putting such things on the internet.
