Transferring Rapidweaver files

rapidbernardos58rapidbernardos58 Manchester, UKPosts: 31Members
Hi There. I am currently using the latest version of Rapidweaver 5. I recently tried to copy all rapidweaver files including preferences to another Mac. When I open the file on the new mac the style and layout is correct, BUT the image files are are missing. I am assuming that this is because of the file path ie images>documents>G5, is there any way I can avoid this file path to allow me to update and copy between different Macs?

Any help would be appreciated.

First, I may be misunderstanding you. But based on what I understand it seems you are entering images using Resources feature of RW, or something similar.

Overall the safest, best way to deal with images is to warehouse them and then refer to them in RW via their URL address. I create sites using 3 different computers, and if I didn't warehouse images I'd be going crazy.

Put over simply this means you need some FTP software. I use Transmit but there are many options out there, some free. Then have a place on your server that is just for your warehoused images. For example, I create a folder called "warehouse" at my website server location. Send your images to this folder location. Most FTP software products will then allow you to easily "copy" the full URL address of that image. If not, write it down. Then within RW refer to your images via this URL address.

What's the disadvantage of this approach? Very very little: you first need to learn how to do it. But this is a skill that will take an hour or so to learn, and is very worthwhile having. Second, there are some stacks that don't work with warehoused images, but thankfully that's becoming very rare.
