All New rapid-book.com with a new Product!!

JohnJJohnJ cyberSpacePosts: 517Members
I am happy to report that I have finally made the time to create my new site for my flash products. With the new site comes a new product... RapidTicker. Do to numerous requests for a "Magazine" sized book for blocks, I have updated RapidBook for Blocks to now include 2 sizes. I offer demo files for all of my products. Please try them before you purchase.

I have put a great deal of time into this project. There is often a fair amount of customer service required. The original products are still working fine. There is no need to upgrade from a usability standpoint. I am offering the new version as an upgrade to previous owners.

RapidTicker is a very cool ticker. It has many possible uses. Each topic in your ticker has the capability of a unique link. This could even be used as navigation on a splash page. I guess I will leave the creativity up to you guys.lol

Please do not make posts about it not working. If you have a problem please use the contact form. I have tested these thoroughly. I offer excellent service should you have any issues.

All products are sent to the email address that you pay me from. Generally speaking that is your paypal account name.

Nice work John. Look like a couple of great products. I like the new site you've created too!

I've already got RapidBook but that ticker looks awesome.

(And a discount on glass-etching services too... sweet)

    Hi John,

Your new site looks really good, as do your new products, and I'll add them to the RapidWeaver Central Stacks page tomorrow.

Meanwhile, a quick heads-up on what looks like a piece of forgotten text in your site setup Google Analytics panel. You can see it at the bottom of most pages. (Also your contact page doesn't seem to be working.)

Thank you Marten. I am fixing things now. I appreciate the heads up.

    Hi,

I purchased both Ticker versions yesterday.

The Blocks-version works fine, but in the Stacks version, the Stack file seems to be missing - In the purchased version as well as in the demo files. Did I miss something?
  • JohnJJohnJ cyberSpacePosts: 517Members
I apologize for my error. I emailed the correct files to you and repaired the demo download. Thank you for your purchase.

John, these look very nice. Please could you tell me if its possible to change the look of the ticker background, or is this the only option? Thanks

    Hi Stan,

Thanks for the nice comments. It is coming up quite a bit, I love black, so I think everybody else does. I didn't realize what bad taste you all have.lol To answer the question, I am going to make a light version. I am a bit backed up at the moment. RapidTicker is going to include 2 versions. A light and a dark.

Keep in mind that the ticker can also be styled by the block or the stack. I am almost considering a redesign without any frame at all around it. It would simply be either a black rectangle or a white rectangle. I think it makes sense to keep things that way. Color would be added by either the stack or the block.

What are others thoughts on this? I want to make something that people want on my next release of it. Thanks in advance.

    John,
I'm glad I'm not the only one with bad taste. ;-) I really liked the RapidTicker but thought a lighter version would be a nice addition. Glad to hear it is on your list of things to do.

You mentioned this may take a bit since you are "a bit backed up at the moment". I hope that means you have a bit of other work that needs attention and not that you need a change in your your diet! :O

    Looking forward to the update.

Thanks Brian. It means 2 things actually. I have other work and I have service issues with what I have out there. Just getting people familiar with RapidBook. I've sold about 20 copies. Experience has taught that I will have support. I do feel I did a better job at my site of explaining things. Service has been going good. I have one strange issue with an entire page disappearing from a RW project. In short I want to make servicing what is sold my #1 priority.

I am also thinking about what to do with RapidTicker. I don't want to have more than one update or fix. This becomes a hassle for the customer.

Why not just do a version without any background at all?
With a black and a white frame, we would still be bound to those. No background would be the best way to do it IMHO.
You could probably just replace the background-jpg with a transparent PNG in the SWF file.

Many thanks to John. First 2 RapidBooks created and uploaded. More to come. They work well, but I must brush them up.

I met a big, almost not understable problem, though. But at last I understood: I had made a stupid mistake in 2 of my Collage2 pages, and this created an ugly conflict with RB.

So if you meet a problem with RB and are using Collage2 in the same site, I think I can suggest to check if everything is okay with the Collage2 pages.

If you want, you can see my RapidBooks at http://www.mariobiondiscrittore.it/Libera_lettura/FlipBook/flipbook.html

The first 2 links are to RB files, the others are in format FlippingBook.

Beware. They are books in ITALIAN, so you won't most probably be able to read them: simply to check how the plugin works.

    Ciao from Italy ;-)

Thank you for thye suggestion. If only it where that simple. The problem is I have to choose a color. If I could make it transparent I would. I would forgo the frame (people could add that with stack/block formatting. That is why I am leaning towards a Black and a White version. Thank you again.

Since you have to choose a color - and you're thinking about two stark ones - how about throwing in a third? Although white or black would probably work in most cases, if you were able to also offer a tone-neutral color (medium grey), I think all the bases would be covered.

In the past, I've hand coded something similar when the client's called for it - but my solution is not as elegant. The next time I need something like this, I know what I'll be buying ;-)

Speaking of which, after taking a quick look at one of baburkhan's sites, I immediately bought a copy of RapidBook for Stacks. I have a customer who is putting together a memory book for a parent's birthday (hard copy) - who is very excited about making the book available on-line as well. Perfecto!

    Cheers,

    Dave

OK John, while we are on the subject of colours for RapidTicker, is there any way to change the font colour of the title and text, either by modifying the stacksTicker.xml file, or by you adding it for us in the HUD? Not that I'm trying to add to your workload ;-), but if any additions or modifications can be done in just the one update then it is certainly more convenient for everyone concerned.

    Take care

    Al :-)
  • JohnJJohnJ cyberSpacePosts: 517Members
That would indeed be very cool Al, unfortunately not an option. I thought the ticker was going to be a no-brainer. These types of adjustments are handled within Flash. To my knowledge there is no way for me to make these option available via the XML. In short the only color options available to the RW user would be the formatting of the Stack/Block (background color if made oversized and the outer stroke. As I think about the idea more, I am coming up with a black and a white version as a final version. Type will also Black, white and gray.

This is a ticker. I think of a ticker and I think of something on the plain side as far as style goes. I think it is a good site tool for some. The fact that the type moves will draw attention. Styling of it will be limited to stack/block options. I urge all to download the trial before purchasing. There are no further options available to you in the paid option.

Keep in mind it is an excellent tool for site news. The content is updated through the XML. There is no need to open RW at all. If you would like custom colors I'm sure I can accommodate you. It will probably cost $10.00 additional to cover my work. Thank you for your input Al.

Hey John, that's no problem - just thought I'd mention it in case there was an easy way, I couldn't see one myself. I do take the point about the movement, for me that was the main attraction for Newsflashes and the like, colour was very much a secondary consideration.

    Take care

    Al :-)

JohnJ, a real chieftain you are. WOW! 42 people came to see my 2 RapidBooks on my site (now they are 4).

I would have one suggestion: can you make possibile for RB users to put a self-created background image, instead of simply changing the BG color? Thanks :-D
  • JohnJJohnJ cyberSpacePosts: 517Members
Hi Mario. I am sorry I missed your post. The answer to your question is no. The reason for this is I have to make the background transparent. Otherwise there would be a background to the book. Most want it that way.
