I am happy to announce today the release of my first stack for 2010 called the PDF Embed Stack. The PDF Embed Stack does exactly what you think it does... It embeds PDF files onto your webpage. For this to work, your visitors will need to have a pdf plugin installed into their web browser.

You can see an example of this stack on the PDF Embed Product Page.

While this stack is only going to be $4.95, I thought that I would go ahead and do a promo anyways. You can get $2 off for the next month using the promo code PDF2010.
Cheers,
Joe

    Cool!
Took the demo, bought it instantly.
Maybe, if that's not to much trouble, a little download button, for people who want to download the PDF for later reference?

    Good Work!

I don't think that extra button is necessary. In the toolbar you have the "Disc Icon" which is basically save button :)

I like the idea of it very much. I couldn't view the pdf though. Firefox 3.5.2 gave me a message that a plugin was required to view the content, then told me none was available.

I'm the same as John - FF telling me i need a plug in, but that none was available. I have Adobe Acrobat Professional on my machine but went ahead and got the latest Adobe Acrobat Reader just in case - but still no go.

As I stated on my site, you will need to have a pdf plugin for your browser in order for this to work. Here is the PDF Plugin for Firefox.

Bravo Joe! I've been interested in this form into a web page for three years, now. I hope, with Henk Vrieselaar's snippet: Don't Copy Text inserted in this embedded stack security for the PDF will work. I'll keep you up on my attempts progress. Some might say why not use Scribd and display your work remotely? This stack can cut-out-the-middle guy, I say. So glad your expertise is soaring in a made to order world, Mr. Workman.

    Congrats,

    Hi

I have been using the Scribd service to embed PDFs within an accordion, but bought this PDF embed stack as I would prefer not to use Scribd if possible.

I have one issue and one question:

    1. issue: as I said I am trying to display the PDFs within an accordion. I can import other stacks into the accordion, but can't get this PDF embed stack working. In RW Preview, nothing shows in the accordion (the PDF shows fine on the Stacks page), and when I publish, I get the following error message where the imported stacks page should be:

    "404 Page Not Found

Sorry! The page you requested is unavailable. Please use your browser's Back button, or go to the home page."

The URL for the accordion page is http://www.soterianetwork.org.uk/articles/articles.html

The article that I am trying is import is under 'test'. The rest are Scribd PDFs.

    User Name: Soteria Password: mosher123

    2. question: is it possible, now or in the future to be able to control settings for the PDF in terms of the user's ability to copy the text, print and download, as it is with Scribd?

    Thanks

    Nick

Just to say that I worked out the issue with the PDFs not showing up. If I am using assets/[filename].pdf for the path, then the PDF file needs to be an asset in the accordion page and not the stacks page. Alternatively entering the full URL to the PDF file works.

The issue with the permissions still remains. Is it likely that there is any way round this? If not this would be the main difference between Scribd and the PDF embed Stack, the ability to control permissions for printing and downloading.

In terms of using it with the Don't Copy Text snippet (which I haven't tried), I presume this wouldn't prevent downloading and printing.

My think, is heading in the direction for html5, like with iphone, and now, ipad creating a non-flash environment for the future. So I have to say Scribd is secure; and to some extent Adobe had minimum features to aid permissions.

But there is today's demand for xml which is more robust and innovating. Music Engravers should be concerned with a Dolet 5 plugin before publishing. Then when royalty related venues present their work; it should be in the form of an XHTML page.
One tough decision is how I might use a xenoplayer in a Rapid Weaver page which uses strictly a musicXML file.

After all that said, this stack plus PDFPen can make a marketable combination for those who are free with their files.
Thanks Nick for your Tests they support my a-perceptions.

Does anyone know how to prevent download or copy the pdf included?
    Is it possible?

Hi Joe, I'm trying to use the stack, but it keeps telling me that the PDF doesn't begin with "&#xPD;F-", but if I open it with TextWrangler, it does. It says "&#xPD;F-1.3"... Any ideas?

Hi Joe, have a question on the PDF Embed stack… Is there a option to control the background color of the PDF Stack?
See my screen shot here… Like in most cases to have the background transparent, or hat least control the color.

    Thanks in advance,
    Take Care!
