So here is what i found - I bought the stack, installed and have had a play around for half an hour.
I't quite good. You can get some really nice overlapping Fade-Ins and outs (I've yet to read the instructions so i'm only going on what i've done through trial and error). What i've been playing with so far is here: http://www.chrisadamsdesignstudio.com/test
I did however then see a chart comparing LayerUp with AnimatePro (also by rwextras) - It seems that Animate Pro may be a better option for you.
I think in retrospect, i should have looked a little harder first and gone with Animate Pro as it seems to do everything LayerUp does (and more) for the same price.
animatePro definitely seems like the way to go for what I'm looking for.
Will probably download it tomorrow and test it out.
Thanks so much!

I'd say that you could fake it with the first slideshows that Chris mentioned, but that AnimatePro would be the best solution to give you total control over the design. I used it here, for reference: http://www.lippsandson.com/pacific
I've been playing around with a more powerful animation tool that I won in a contest, MotionComposer. It is more powerful still, but has a fairly steep learning curve. I'm finding that what I was hoping to do with it is too slow to load, for my first project, so I'm in the process of redesigning it to not use PNGs. I built it as totally transparent, but will have to fake that with JPEGs to get a more reasonable file size. Here's the test page, just to give you any idea: http://www.surftoart.com/test
If you don't need more complex effects, AnimatePro is a lot less expensive and very capable.
Your first example is pretty much exactly what I'm looking for.
Just wish I could put the text over a symNivo slideshow but that doesn't appear to be possible.
btw, now I really want one of those surboards for my wall

Glad to help, Edward. Moving things is kinda fun, so have at it, and post your results, so we can see what you come up with.

Welcome to the forum and to RapidWeaver.
Yes, absolutely.
There are a whole host of 3rd party plugins for doing slideshows and also for having background images behind stacks.
Some of my personal favorites:
DooBox - www.doobox.co.uk
Joe Workman - joeworkman.net/rapidweaver/
Weaver Addons - www.weaveraddons.com
But there are obviously loads more. See how you get on and if you need some more info, give me a shout.
Good luck.

and have a look at PlusKit - a very useful tool to have and well worth the money. http://loghound.com/pluskit/index.html

I currently have PlusKit, as well as Multitool lite and symNivo.
I have a symNivo picture slideshow running in a banner but I need text layers to animate over that slideshow.
Would you know of a specific add-on that would accomplish that?
In the example you gave, it was a static image with the text "slides" going across the top.
Are you looking to have the images sliding independently of the text? It can be done but I'm not sure if it might be a bit too much (visually)?
I'll have a look when I get in and see what I can find.

I've just found this: http://rwextras.com/layerup/.html
I might invest in it myself

There are some great looking demos on the site and it will definitely do what you want.
I'm working on a project right now that this would be perfect for, i might purchase this evening and have a play around and let you know how i get on.

I'm going to check it out right now.
I won't need to use this for another few days so in case you end up buying it,
please do let me know how it works out for you...

The chart in question is here: http://rwextras.com/media_files/compare.jpg and the link to Animate Pro is here: http://rwextras.com/animate_pro/
