Your first SEO tool

RapidBot is the incredibly easy tool designed to create a robots.txt file for your site directly from RapidWeaver.

Robots.txt file is retrieved by search engines, like Google and Bing, and used to state what pages need indexing and what must be ignored.

A robot (also known as Spider or Web Crawler) is a program that automatically traverses the web's hypertext structure by retrieving a document and recursively retrieving all documents that are referenced.

Don't forget that instructing search engines bots help you adding visibility to your site and let people reach you in a more efficient way excluding irrelevant contents.

Only if search engines know what to do with your pages, they can give you a good ranking.

RapidBot is a must-have SEO tool!

Your shopping cart for RapidBot is not working. Also it would be good to have some finished documentation.

Should be a nce, simple little plugin, for those that don't want to create robot.txt files by hand !

A nice plugin. But I'm asking myself if I would have practical use for it if I already own Loghounds "Sitemap Plus" plugin, which also automatically generates a robots.txt file. Would I have any additional benefit when using both plugins?

    Here's the cause:

    Obviously I was joking.

RapidBot is focused on robots.txt creation only. It lets you fine tune indexing rules and add per-useragent filters and comments. Moreover, we're planning to add in future releases even more non-standard (although robots.txt is something that's not standardized at all) options like request-rate and visit-time directives.

AFAIK SiteMap Plus uses robots.txt file only to provide sitemap url and relies on meta tags to set indexing rules. That said, I think they can somehow complement each other.

do we need a robots.txt if you have a sitemap.xml?
    example: http://www.omnidea.it/robots.txt
    User-agent: *
    Allow: /
    Disallow: /error/
    Sitemap: http://www.omnidea.it/sitemap.xml

Robots.txt tells search engines where sitemap is.
Default is "sitemap.xml" in root folder, but could be any name in any folder.

... something is wrong with the sparkle update process :-/

no idea if it's RapidBot or RapidWeaver itself but on relaunch I got a pretty scaring "missing plugins" alert and none of my plugins was seen by RW

had a look at user/Library/Application Support/Rapidweaver/ and found a "to Install" folder with RapidBot inside. manually moved RB to where it belongs, deleted the "to Install" folder and all is fine again

please: take a look at this!
    thanks

Updates are handled by Sparkle update framework and we do not have much control over it.

We've not received other reports about this, so it could be an isolated issue.

... and this time too Sparkle update leaves RapiBot inside a "to Install" folder (in user/library/Application Support/RapidWeaver/) and on relaunch RW does not see *any* of my installed plugins, not just RapidBot! aaarrggghhhh!!!

if all is fine on your side, *please* get in touch with whoever is behind Sparkle as there's something deeply wrong!

I'd start with a permission / integrity check on your hard disk. We've not been able to reproduce your issue nor received other reports about it.
