RW Proj will not open on second mac

chicagochicago Posts: 176Members
I have the same RW configuration on my MB Pro that I have on my iMac, but I cannot open my RW website on the MBPro. All I have seen for the last 30 minutes is:

Opening "Doggone Good Apps"...

I'm leaving on vacation and would like to have access to my website while away.

I am running Lion, RW 5.2.2 and my /User/Lib/App Support/RW folder is identical to that on my iMac.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Also why does RW want to use my confindential info. I am denying that, is that why my proj will not open??

I do not recall getting this dialog box in the past.

    Thanks.

Have you copied over the "User/Library/Preferences/com.realmacsoftware.rapidweaverpro.plist" as well as all of your third party serial numbers from your "User/Library/Preferences" to your MB Pro?.

I believe you will need to allow RW to have access to your confidential information which is stored in your keychain for it to work.

    Norman,
thanks so much for your help. Here are the files I have moved/replaced on my MBPro but I still cannot open the RW project.

I am also allowing RW to access my keychain info.

I forgot to mention that I did remove all of the 'copy' text from each file.

I noticed on the image that you have posted there are two files which have lockfile at the end of the "com.realmacsoftware.rapidweaverpro.plist" - I am not sure what these are as they do not appear on my system and I suspect that might be what is causing the problem.

Let us try and see if we can resolve this problem in a logic manner:

    1. Have you got the upgrade serial number (probably an e-mail) for RW5 somewhere on your imac or if not can you get this from Realmac?
    2. If you have then I would suggest you delete those two files which end in lockfile - and then see if that allows you to open RW.
    3. Can you then open your project file or open RW itself?
    4. If that fails uninstall RW5 on your MB Pro and then re-install it again and this time enter your serial number for RW5 and see if that works.

    Norman,
Thanks so much for getting back to me so quickly.

Ok, I just checked to see in RW would open and it does. I created a dummy prom to verify
    > that I could create a Stacks page and
    >that I could use my proj theme - G ometric - and all is well on that front

    3. Can you then open your project file or open RW itself?
    No same issue

    4. If that fails uninstall RW5 on your MB Pro and then re-install it again and this time enter your serial number for RW5 and see if that works.
When I downloaded RW v5.2.2 it simply 'installed' on my desktop unlike what it did on my iMac. It did ask for my serial number and I entered that and all went well save for the fact I cannot open my current prom.

I will delete all of my RW versions and re-downloak RW 5.2.2 and give that a go.

I am beginning to wonder if something is not wrong with my proj but it works find on my iMac?/

    Thanks again.

    Phillip

    Phillip,

At least you have managed to get RW to work and that is a start. I am just wondering are you actually opening the RW project file correctly the one that ends in .rwsw? Was your project file created in a previous version of RW5? - which you have not got on your MB Pro?

Did you delete those two files I told you about? Lets see how you get on with un-installing RW522 and then installing it again and see if it works.

    Norman,

Ok I have tried all of those things and nothing is working - RW 5.2.2 will not open any of my existing RW projects on my MBPro. After downloading v5.2.2 I was not prompted for a serial number but it again installed on my desktop. I moved it into my App folder where it belongs.

Sadly, I am out of time to spend on this issue as I have to pack for our trip.

I sincerely appreciate all of your help, but it is not the end of the world. I was just hoping to be able to make changes to my site while we were away.

This are the kinds of situations that arise when trying to 'live' on two different computers.

    No loss.

    Thanks again,
    Phillip Anthony

    Norman,

(Note. RW v5.2.2 has always launched on my MBPro. that was never an issue.)

am just wondering are you actually opening the RW project file correctly the one that ends in .rwsw?

    >I have tried selecting Open from the RW menu and also dragging and dropping the file icon onto RW in the Dock. Nether method will launch my project file. All i get is a prompt requesting permission .. and then the "opening ...." dialog

Was your project file created in a previous version of RW5? - which you have not got on your MB Pro?

    > I believe that I began that project in a pervious version of RW prior to v5.2.2, but then I installed 5.2.2 and never had any issue on the iMac. Both computers now have the same version of RW v5..2.2 . My project runs fine on my iMac but not on the MBPro.

Did you delete those two files I told you about?
    > Yes, I deleted all of those files. Sorry for not mentioning that.

    Update!

Well, I'm settled in my new location in NM and this morning I thought I would launch RW to see if I could open my website. Voila! RW opened it in a flash. I was shocked.

A few days back RW refused to open my site (or any other proj for that matter), but today no problem. I'm elated with this discovery, but I would really like to understand how this came about because I have not even launched RW since it refused to open my proj -

    http://doggonegoodapps.com/

so this is a bit puzzling.

    Thoughts anyone?

    Phillip,

Great news must be your location which has done the trick or failing that have you been dancing around a fire at midnight, with your trouser legs rolled up and your chest bare and whooping and hollering and grunting and grinding!!

Lets hope everything goes well and have a great vacation.

    Hey Norman,

Good to hear from you. I was hoping you'd chime back in on this.

I did not think of any of your great suggestions, but I have been hollin' at the moon. Does that count? ;)

But, seriously, this is somewhat strange behavior.

If my wife will quit with all the 'honey-do lists', I might have a great vacation. Regardless, life is awesome.

    Take care,
    Phillip
