Greetings all:

My wife has an internet radio station and my first task with RapidWeaver was to build its site:

http://www.positivelisteningradio.com/index.php

I'm relatively new to RW and the good people of this community have been extraordinarily generous with their time and advice, helping me get this site up and running.

Please have a look and let me know your thoughts.

My thanks,

Paul Molloy

Very nice site. My only critiques would be the banner on the home page is a little obtrusive. You might want to think about making it transparent, and the listening link is in Flash. I and a lot of other people keep flash turned off using click to flash. Don't know if you might have another solution besides Flash for that though.

Really liked the site and the layout.

    Hi Keith:

Thanks for having a look and sharing your thoughts. I took your advice and dropped the opacity on the banner at the top of the home page.

As for the live365.com widget in flash, I'm not certain if there's an option for one not done that way. If there is, I'm eager to check it out.

    All the best,

    Paul

Site looks awesome Paul. Several things I would like to duplicate for sure. My question is if you know how to or have seen anyone stream internet radio thru a rapid weaver site. I use Nicecast to broadcast and want the broadcast to play to site visitors.........
    Ideas?

Unfortunately, you're probably going to have to incorporate a flash player to stream your station (I'm guessing you're using a shoutcast server right?)

To me the design is backwards. All of your primary content areas consist of brown type on a beige background, which results in page content that's relatively low-contrast and relatively difficult to read.

The About Us, Contact Us, and Stay Connected blocks at the bottom of the page, however, are a nice high-contrast dark brown on white. Clear and easy to read.

Make things easy for your readers. Switch the styles for the content and the supporting elements. The main content should be the prominent element on the page. Supporting elements are just that, supporting, and should be relatively unobtrusive, unless they're your primary call to action.

Speaking of which, that "Listen" block should be at the top of every sidebar on the site. We live in the age of Google. Don't assume that every new visitor is going to come in on the home page.

Moving on, I also don't care for the Everything that was great line at the top of the page. Mottos should be short and sweet, like the good music/vibes line, and there should just be one. Pick one and go with it.

Finally, move the "Welcome" text off to the sidebar or to the bottom. Every site wants to welcome its visitors, whereas those visitors -- and returning visitors -- want to see your content. See what's new, like the "All Access" Debut Episode Now Available section.

Would you want a waiter to recite a three minute long welcome speech every time you visit? Or do you rather hear Today's special?

    Just food for thought.

I like it . Its clean and easy to use . Play around with the padding and margins at bit.
White space is crucial and its a common problem, use it when the text runs too close to the edge or top or bottom. It will have a huge impact on the visual impact.
Its the one thing that is not used enough on many sites. Personally I never use the default setting and always aim for a nice clean space around the text. It will make it alot easier to read.
    Try it and see.

Great site... I think it needs a little more contrast myself...... maybe some black on the header or borders.....

    Congratulations!
