Resolution Specific CSS

Hello again,

I have a question. I have created custom CSS for the sidebar of my theme for browsers that have a height less than (X)

However I dont know how to set it up so only swaps the sidebar CSS instead of the entire CSS sheet.

I tried this approach with no luck: http://css-tricks.com/resolution-specific-stylesheets/

Flash or HTML5 for video? Depends on viewer’s machines or browsers?

I’m going to be using Joe Workman’s Vimeo Stack and there is a choice to use HTML5 or Flash. While Flash is going to be fading, the reality is that many, many people in offices that do not have up-to-date machines, browsers and setups will be viewing this file. My audience will not be high-tech types with the latest and greatest.

What is the best strategy to follow to make sure as many people as possible are able to access the Vimeo file? If I use Vimeo HTML5 and the viewer doesn’t have a browser that supports it (not even sure which browser doesn’t), will it default to Flash? What about if they don’t even have Flash?

What’s the best way to go on this?
free form image and text layout possible?

I am struggling to get the design of my site worked out and need some help as to whats the best stack/way to get a fairly freeform layout, and Google adsense anywhere on the page. Ill explain the way things need to look and function and if you can help by point me to the right stacks I’d appreciate it. As the amount of content I will be adding on a daily basis is huge I need to work out ways to do this very quickly. Maybe saving a style so I can add parts to a page very quickly.

As I said I am trying to build a site that gets alot of articles everyday a bit like a blog BUT without the right side of the screen blog dates rss feeds entries etc. Examples of sites would be something like http://www.techcrunch.com or http://www.engadget.com But probably not as cluttered.

Main page consists of lots of, as I call them, leadin articles posted in a stream (might add 3-5 of these a day )
These are located in the main body of the page, as I said these are made of short leadin text and photos and the od google ad. So its a bit like a standard RW blog in that to read the full article you hit a “readmore” link beside each leadin article, which then takes you to a separate full page dedicated to that particular article. Each leadin article would also include a range of separate social buttons. I hope there is an easy fast way to do this so it separated the articles on the main page.

There would be a separate right column which might consist of google adverts etc but not blog type entires and I’d like google ads dropped in the main articles in the front page leadin articles in some places. So I need the ability to sprinkle these anywhere in small numbers even in a banner.

I like the idea of a stack I can put the photo ANYWHERE, the standard ones seem to only allow you to put the photo left or right and at the top. Is there something I can use to put a photo anywhere. Completely freeform in the text so text might wrap around all sides even

Hope this makes sense.
thanks for your time

How to move the Site Logo from Right to Left in the Header

Hi,

At the moment the Site Logo is on the right in the header.

But I would much prefer the Site Logo on the left in the header.

I’m using the Simple theme, Style: Grey, Width: Default (700 px), Sidebar: Right

How to move the Site-Logo to the Left in the Header?

I have printed out styles.css

Thanks,

GridBoard Stacks are:

• 1-6 columns
• Equal height
• Flexible width
• Create awesome frames
• Add tileable background images to both frame and content.
• Create framed hover buttons
• Stacks 2

Image Warehousing in Stacks

Ever since the dawn of my development in Stacks, users have wanted to warehouse the images used in my many image stacks. Now that Stacks 2 is here, I have more elaborate APIs where allowing this is now possible! I have one new free stack today as well as 9 really good updates to existing image stacks.

In case you are new to this topic, image warehousing is the process of storing your images on an external server. This could be your own webserver, AmazonS3, or maybe even Dropbox. All of the stacks below now support image warehousing. This means that you no longer have to drag and drop and image into the stack. You can simply configure the url to your warehoused image and you are good to go.

New Warehouse Image

This is very simple image stack that allows you to place a warehoused image onto your webpage. There are not fancy options, CSS or tricks here. You get an image, that’s it.

I have also added an interesting feature into this stack. When you use the link to to specify the url to your image, if you add a class attribute to that link, that class will also be added to the image. This will allow you to add classed that may be required to CSS or javascript library that you want to use the image with.

I have not taken the time to build a product page for this stack yet. However, you can download it here.

Fluid Image

I recently released this stack and as you know it allows you to have an image that will fit perfectly into a responsively designed site. I am happy to say that you can now warehouse these images as well!

For more info, check out the Fluid Image Product page.

Tip: If you use this stack in combination of my Cycler stack. Not only can you have a slider with warehoused images (as you can with almost any stack in this post) but you will also turn Cycler into a completely responsive variable width slider as well!

Image Safe

Image Safe is an awesome way to protect your images from visitors from easily copying your image. It stops users from being able to drag them off your website or save them via a right click menu. As you may guess, you can now protect your warehoused images with Image Safe.

For more info, check out the Image Safe Product page.

Fancy Image Stacks

I will stop boring you now with the details of each and every update. There are a total of 6 Fancy Image stacks that have been updated to support image warehousing. However a few of these stacks how a pretty nice overhaul with Stacks 2. Below are the links to all of the stacks that got this makeover. A couple of my favorites here are Image Hover and Popup Caption.

Image Hover Stack

Popup Caption Stack

Re-style Hyperlinks

Hi,

I’m trying to re-style the hyperlinks.
So I have put the following in Page Inspector >Header >CSS

a:link {
    color: #3366CC;
    text-decoration: none !important;
    }
a:visited {
    border-bottom: 1px dotted #3366CC;
    color: #3366CC;
    text-decoration: none !important;
    }
a:hover {
    border-bottom: 1px dashed #3366CC;
    color: #3366CC;
    text-decoration: none !important;
    }
a:active {
    border-bottom: 1px solid #3366CC;
    color: #3366CC;
    text-decoration: none !important;
    }

It works:
1. there is no line under the link,
2. there appears a dashed line when I hover over the link,
3. there appears a solid line when I activate the link,

BUT

4. after visiting the link there is no dotted line under the link.

Please help, what have I done wrong?

How to enable php?

This may be a dumb question, but do I have to do something to enable php? For the past few days I’ve been back and forth with Yabdab support trying to get FormSnap working properly (Right now my forms are saying they’ve been sent successfully, but they never show up in my e-mail inbox). The latest response from Yabdab support basically said that the success message means that the script has been generated and sent successfully, and that it could be a problem with the host not allowing php emails. However, I’ve had several lengthy conversations with my hosting company (Bluehost) and they even set up a sample php email to prove that that is not the issue.

When I first downloaded FormSnap, I was able to receive form emails with no issue. However, I recently had to remake much of my site, including forms, and now I’m having this problem, which makes me wonder if I had some kind of php setting enabled on the old site? How would I check that?

website etiquette and browsers

Is there some kind of website code I don’t know about?
This woman emailed me from my site and she was all in a snit about my website.

She couldn’t find my phone number - well it is on EVERY page at the bottom in a brightly colored footer. Now this footer is in extra content and when she looked at her OTHER computer she could see it. Is there some kind of browsers that wouldn’t display extra content areas?

Then she told me that MOST websites have the nav bar at the top or on the left - NOT on the right and that was an issue I should address. ????

Somebody clue me in?
