free form image and text layout possible?

I am struggling to get the design of my site worked out and need some help as to whats the best stack/way to get a fairly freeform layout, and Google adsense anywhere on the page. Ill explain the way things need to look and function and if you can help by point me to the right stacks I’d appreciate it. As the amount of content I will be adding on a daily basis is huge I need to work out ways to do this very quickly. Maybe saving a style so I can add parts to a page very quickly.

As I said I am trying to build a site that gets alot of articles everyday a bit like a blog BUT without the right side of the screen blog dates rss feeds entries etc. Examples of sites would be something like http://www.techcrunch.com or http://www.engadget.com But probably not as cluttered.

Main page consists of lots of, as I call them, leadin articles posted in a stream (might add 3-5 of these a day )
These are located in the main body of the page, as I said these are made of short leadin text and photos and the od google ad. So its a bit like a standard RW blog in that to read the full article you hit a “readmore” link beside each leadin article, which then takes you to a separate full page dedicated to that particular article. Each leadin article would also include a range of separate social buttons. I hope there is an easy fast way to do this so it separated the articles on the main page.

There would be a separate right column which might consist of google adverts etc but not blog type entires and I’d like google ads dropped in the main articles in the front page leadin articles in some places. So I need the ability to sprinkle these anywhere in small numbers even in a banner.

I like the idea of a stack I can put the photo ANYWHERE, the standard ones seem to only allow you to put the photo left or right and at the top. Is there something I can use to put a photo anywhere. Completely freeform in the text so text might wrap around all sides even

Hope this makes sense.
thanks for your time

Post Office Stack

I’ve tested Joe Workman’s Post Office stack and, with the help of this forum, appear to have got it up and running on a new page in an existing RW site.
Now I’d like to have the stack on all of my pages.
Is there a problem with doing this?
Are there any SEO issues if Post Office turns each page it is on into a .php page (which I think it will)?
Should I build the stack from scratch on each page, or is it OK to just copy and paste the stack and edit the Export Auth for each page?
Before I go to this stage two of using Post Office I would welcome any recommendations.
All the best

I have viewed a few RW Classroom videos on using Stacks.
The author uses some great Stacks that he mentions ae ‘free’ although I don’t mind paying for my Stacks.

The particular tacks that he uses are exactly what I require.
If anyone has seen the demo videos - do you know where I can download the same Stacks?
Thank you.

New - Wrapper Stack

Wrapper Stack - Version 1.1
It’s been said time and time again - Stacks is a revolutionary plugin for RapidWeaver and enables you to build awesome page layouts without the bother of code or Internet Explorer testing. But one of the weaknesses of Stacks is that multiple blocks of content normally have to go inside column stacks. The net result is that sometimes a Stacks layout can look a bit too uniformed, with large spaces under shorter columns.

The Wrapper Stack enables you to create a more fluid and organic page layout, by setting up smaller blocks of fixed content, such as images, video, image caption stacks, slideshows, tab boxes etc. Then surrounding the fixed content, you can enter text, tags, lists, HTML code etc. Think of it as a left or right floating image stack - but one that is suitable for ANY type of content.

Settings are included in the HUD to customise the width of your fixed content, an option to float it either right or left and independent margin controls. This new wrapper stack has been tested and confirmed to work on all major web browsers as far back as Internet Explorer 6. The stack uses basic HTML and CSS code to achieve the effect, and should work fine with most third-party RapidWeaver themes. Best of all, the Wrapper Stack is free for both personal and commercial use. It can be downloaded from the ThemeFlood website.

Here’s a couple things I’d like to see ... soon.

1) Grouping. If you are an established, and active, Developer could we please get some ‘grouping’ to your existing stacks to clean things up in Stacks 2.

2) Updates. Could we get a nice simple way to get updates. If you’ve changed a stack to only work with Stacks v2, and sparkle isn’t an option - then send out an email notice to previous owns. Tell us to delete the previous version, and then install the new one.

Nice and Simple.

There are times I just launch RW and let it sit because a notice - Tweet or Blog Post - is made saying something has updated. I could leave RW open for an hour or more at times and never see an update.

This all needs to be ‘end user’ friendly. And not a process.

Thanks for all you do. :)

changes bg when scrolled over

I’m looking for a stack that might provide me with the possibility of highlighting the content when the cursor is held over it.

for example - the smaller images (row of 4) on this PAGE I don’t really want the item to be clickable at this point - but would like to create an active link like feel for the entire bg of that stack as they scroll over it.

thanks in advance for any assistance.

Cheers

Stacks 2 Upgrade-Page in Edit Mode Changes Width

I updated to Stack 2 last week and so far I am loving it and having no issues except for one cosmetic issue. When I am in the edit mode pages sometimes open up to their “normal” width like they would have in Stacks 1. Other times the same page will appear in a width that is not correct. The page width is not proportional to it’s actual width. Text and picture captions get cut off. So far this has only been cosmetic and the pages publish correctly, but it makes it hard to work with some of the pages due to the truncated content. At first I thought it might be due to the Info Pane that Stacks 2 adds to the right hand side of the the window. But the reality is it happens whether the Info Pane is visible or not. The problem also comes and goes. I will have a normal width page and go into the Preview Mode & then when I come back it will be narrow. I go to another page and come back and the width is ok. There seems to be no consistency to when it happens. Things just keep changing back and forth with no apparent trigger.

I have enclosed a screen capture of the effect. If you look you can see where the picture captions get cut off under some of the images. This is a 960px width site. Ten minutes before this was taken the same page looked “normal” displaying about 1/3 wider than you see here. Once again it looks fine in Preview Mode.

I am using the latest version of RapidWeaver & Stacks 2 and I updated all of my Stacks to the latest versions before doing the upgrade. I am wondering if any one else is seeing this and what the possible solution might be? TIA.
