I spent a few hours tweaking the new Caribou theme to make a Caribou Dark theme. I made changes to the styles.css, index.html and most of the images (it can be seen at http://www.lmartgallery.com)
I have three questions:
Would anyone be interested in it?
Does Realmac allow sharing of this type?
How does one go about packaging the theme into a downloadable theme?
Thanks.

Very nice work. You have obviously done your homework. I would be interested in receiving this updated theme with your tweaks.
IMHO If another individual already owned the theme in question, I would not think it would be a violation of any copyright laws or software agreements to add your “tweaks”. I don’t see how that is any different than members sharing CSS on the forums to help somebody achieve a certain look or feel to a theme.

Since this theme comes with RapidWeaver’s free upgrade, there shouldn’t be an issue of purchasing it, but I’ll wait for Realmac’s permission.
The route most people take is to write tutorials and make screencasts showing how the tweaks are made, but in this case I don’t have anything new to offer. It’s just time consuming to edit the graphics. That’s why I wanted to share.
As I’m typing this I wonder… can one go to the website’s images folder and copy them?

Yes.
The url to your image folder is http://www.lmartgallery.com/rw_common/themes/caribou/images/
It shows the directory listing and you can download each single image…well, you don’t need to, but I could if I wanted ![]()
Things like that are normal and cannot be prevented in the web. You need the folder to be accessible for browsers to “get” the images from there to display them, and that automatically means permission to save as well.

Hi,
We have no problems with people sharing modified versions of themes included within RapidWeaver. If you plan to do this please update the plist file to modify all original theme names and keywords with references to Realmac Software and the theme itself. This is because we cannot offer support for these themes and it could cause confusion later on. If your unfamiliar with the plist the Theme SDK has an overview of what the various keys refer to.
For obvious reasons purchased themes cannot be shared in this way.
Cheers,
Aron

Thanks for this constructive answer, Aron. And you’re right, since you can’t support the theme variation, all hints to RMS as developer should be deleted.
Can we have a subforum for those offers?

Thanks Aron for the words of wisdom here, RMS should not be responsible in anyway for modification of the the RMS provided themes. Could this types of themes be posted in the addons section of the RMS site. Then maybe announced in the announcement section?

So I have the theme and would like to add a link to it in my RapidWeaver-built website. I tried making the theme file an asset and adding a simple link to it. That doesn’t work.
I want to avoid the file-sharing download page of RapidWeaver. What should I be doing?

I figured out my problem.
I’m using a free hosting site for my private stuff and it was not uploading the zip file (not allowed). So I put the zip file on another website of mine and linked to it.
So now, is this something I can/should share with the community? I included a disclaimer about RapidWeaver not supporting the theme since it has been modified.
