Hi all,

Typically I stick with safe, readable fonts like Lucida Grande or Verdana.  Recently I’ve taken a closer look at Hiragino Kaku Gothic Pro, and I like it.  Offering it as a standard choice in RW suggests it’s a widely available web-safe font, however typography is one of my specialties, and I can’t say I’m familiar with this one.

I have no idea if I can expect Hiragino Kaku Gothic Pro to be resident on most users’ systems.  Anyone have any info or comments about this font?

Is this font part of the localisation for somewhere like Japan possibly? I’m not sure if it is on Windows systems, doesn’t seem to be there on a basic Windows XP SP2 install for all apps.

Hi Karn - thanks.  I don’t know about localization, I can only say it was part of the standard default install on my system.  I’m in the U.S. (Massachusetts); bought RW from Smith Micro and installed it on my MacBook Pro bought online from the Apple Store.

I’ve attached a screen capture of my available fonts. I assumed RW only made universally safe fonts available…is that not the case?  Now I’m curious what other RW users’ font palettes look like!

Those are what RapidWeaver displays to everyone as far as I’m aware, it’s more down to which fonts are ‘standard’ in the browsers of your visitors. Those bottom three might be fonts standard to localised versions of Windows etc that are relevant to different locations around the world. I should maybe know more on this, but haven’t researched those 3 fonts.

These fonts are intended for the display of Japanese characters, though they contain the glyphs for both Japanese and Latin, so if you use them in Latin they should display as such. However it’s quite possible that they aren’t on a lot of computers, in which case the display will default to something else.
