Hi all
I have a page of html which is pretty simple and I was wondering if there was an easy way to convert it to a styled text page, just for ease of editing?
Maybe it involves exporting to another application which reads html and re-importing?
Thanks for any help, Paul
Hi Paul,
Styled Text can easily mix HTML code and applied styling. Is there any need to ‘convert’ it as such, or just paste in the code and apply Ignore Formatting? If you feel there is, then try previewing in RapidWeaver and copy and paste from there perhaps?
with best regards,
Karn.

Any of you who’ve struggled with converting Word documents to HTML over the years know what a pain it has been. Word insists on inserting invalid—or simply overly heavy-handed—CSS styles in order to produce HTML that matches the look and feel of the original Word document, and to my knowledge, it provides no way to bypass this. Not to pick on Microsoft unduly, as Apple takes the same approach with Pages, which converts its beautifully-formatted documents to HTML using CSS styles so verbose and convoluted (yet so WYSIWYG accurate) that no self-respecting webmaster would ever want to claim ownership of the code, much less actually post it on a server.

Not directly or with complete accuracy. It depends on where the html is now. If it’s a document, open it in TextEdit. If it’s already in RW copy/paste it from the Preview window into TextEdit. In both cases be sure word wrap is off in Preferences. There’s a huge downside: you can format things in TextEdit that won’t work out well in HTML so be careful (RW will convert it back to HTML on upload).
Inevitably, I end up pasting the whole thing into TextWrangler to be sure the text is clean and then copy/pasting it back to RW and format it there.
Without an example I can’t come up with tricks.
