In Safari 27.3 (beta), Apple introduces Adaptive Dark Mode. This feature allows Safari to automatically apply a dark appearance to websites that don’t have their own dark mode. For example, white backgrounds may become dark, while black text changes to white.

Websites that already support dark mode, such as those configured through Elements, should not be affected by this feature.

However, I always want my websites to have a white background, regardless of the visitor’s Safari settings.

Apparently, web developers can prevent Safari from applying Adaptive Dark Mode by adding specific code to their websites.

My question is: Will Elements provide a built-in option to disable Safari’s Adaptive Dark Mode, so that websites can always retain their original colours and white backgrounds without requiring custom code?

Hi @Hugo,

Thanks for flagging this. We’ll be adding an option in Theme Settings to keep sites light, so they opt out of Safari’s Adaptive Dark Mode, in a future update.

Until then, you can add this to your site’s custom head code:

```html
<meta name="color-scheme" content="light only">
```

One thing to note: according to WebKit, the `only` keyword isn’t honoured yet in Safari 27.3 beta 1, so the opt-out may not take effect until a later beta.

Cheers
