As the title suggests, if I set the background colour of a container it’s not reflected in the viewport.

No issues here with the latest Beta (v29):

I’m running the latest beta version b29 (32171).

You won’t see the background color unless you either place something inside the container or add some padding. The drop zone is set to fill the entire container and is obscuring the background color.

Hmm, so I decided to try again by placing a simple Container element on a page and setting its background colour. No child elements, and no padding. This time it worked?! There’s something going on, but reproducing it consistently seems like it might prove tricky.

Here’s my test document: [ContainerBackground.elements](elementsapp://downloadDocument/Qszzc3UHQVgQ)

With the container height set to screen, it surely isn’t 😉 Unless THAT is a bug.

Yes, if you set the height of the container to something other than the default height you will see the background color. It is only obscured with the default height.

@handshaper is correct 👍

We do plan to take a pass over the “drop zone” holding image, so that you a see the background as this can be a little confusing until you’ve adjusted the size or added content. It’s all part of the beta process!

I find it handy to have the drop zone as it makes it easy to visualize when you setup the padding for the container. Maybe it can be semi-transparent to allow the color to show through, even though it would not be the “true” color. Or maybe draw a border around the drop zone and have a transparent interior with the text, that way the color would be visible.

When I’m working on a project I tend to create a container global that has the desired padding and other values preset so I can use it consistently across the project. It helps to have a visual clue as to the size of the content area of the container.

Yeah agreed, I think something like that would be perfect 👍
