OK thanks. I will proceed with caution to try a reinstallation when I am sure that I can revert safely back to where I am now if it all goes pear shaped.

Well I’ve given up trying to publish with RW and managed eventually to work out how to use Cyberduck. Thanks for trying to help.

Thanks for sharing your story. I have the same problem for about a year now, same release, same issues, same states of computer, software etc., starting in summer 2019. Working around with Filezilla, but that’s no solution, it’s a nightmare. Tried everything, even built a test project without any external add-ons, just one empty page … doesn’t work, allegedly stops uploading after a few files, and I even can’t quit the application, must force-quit it via system. I hope I can afford a new Mac end of the year, working around drives me mad.

By the way: After reading this thread I downloaded 5.4.1 … same problem, so I really guess the problem may be on the other end of the connection. But my hoster 1&1 in Germany has no idea what could be the problem.
