My current site is built on Foundry 2 (it’s blog uses Alloy).
I was going to create a different site using Foundry 3.

I know that Foundry is still usable but what should I do moving forward?

Should I wait for Elements to launch?

I’d like to get going on the different site but I don’t wanna build that out with something that’ll be unusable in a bit (1 year?)

Foundation seems to fit the bill but it was never as user-friendly as what Adam/Elixir put out with Foundry.

I’m not a coder/programmer. I’m a front end user. I don’t make websites professionally. I make sites for my own professional use.

Also, this is not a ‘hair on fire’ situation. I’m pragmatic enough and just want to be able to get an idea of what my options are.

Thank you

Both Foundry 2 and Foundry 3 are still working fine in RapidWeaver Classic, and I imagine they are going to continue to work fine for a long time.

If you have a website to build now and you already have Foundry 2 (or Foundry 3), you’d be safe to build with it.

When the stable version of Elements is released, you will have a lot of time to learn it and migrate your website over to it if you want.

Foundry 2 is great especially with the expansion packs Potion and Thunder. I don’t think you need to be in a hurry to get off of it necessarily. There is an enormous amount of Stacks today that fill in any shortcomings of Foundry.

For an example Foundry’s angle stack wasn’t quite what I needed so I found a third party tool that worked really well. It will probably take a while for elements to build up a third party market that is at where Stacks is today.

Foundry, v2 and especially v3, will be OK for quite some time.

According to Elixir themselves (about a month ago when their forums were still up), Alloy is a different story - if you have Alloy based projects, it might be a good idea to look for a replacement.

A good replacement for Alloy (with online editing of articles and blog posts) is EasyCMS by Weaver’s Space (about $50).

Just curious, what was Adam saying might break with Alloy? Was it updates to PHP or something?

As I recall, it was potential changes to PHP.

Yup, PHP.

Alloy hasn’t been updated in a while, and didn’t get the fixes for the deprecated PHP functions that Foundry did.

FYI, looks like Easy CMS doesn’t do blog.
Gotta go with Total CMS for that.

Yes, Easy CMS doesn’t do a Blog. So you would have to go the TCMS-road which I only can recommend. I have around 30 to 40 client sites with TCMS and they love(!) it… 🙂

My bad!

TotalCMS (EasyCMS’ big brother) does do blogs though, @zamboknee.
