Here’s an image I made of both side by side so you can more easily compare. With this image it’s ok to zoom in so that one of the images fits your mobile phone screen because it’s a screenshot taken from a mobile phone so by zooming in to this point and not further, you’re actually at 100%. Then you can scroll back and forth and the difference is huge.
(I tried a theme change up that’s why the backgrounds look different)
I’ve never tried it with the slider. Just did and it recreates the problem.

It’s easy to recreate. The standard image stack (not the site image) trick where you set the scale to 50% to create the srcset and retina image doesn’t work if you set the the scale to 50% with the slider.
