Hi there, my blog is currently here whilst I"m building it: [https://www.stormdesignprint.com/blog/](https://www.stormdesignprint.com/blog/).

I’m using the wonderful Instacks poster stack, and I just have a query regarding ‘tags’. Are they used in the same way that ‘keywords’ are used? Ie for Google? Or is it more for visitors on the page to be able to click on and find more info on each word?

If it’s the latter, how do I hide ‘tags’? I just think there’s too much info on each post and I’m not sure it’s necessary to have tags AND categories which are already showing up on the right hand side.

Any advice much appreciated.

Hi Gabrielle, I don’t understand. If you don’t like tags, just don’t use them.

I had asked if tags in this stack were used in the same way that keywords are used for general SEO. So if I delete the tags will that be detrimental to my SEO?

Not sure if you’re talking about the _keyword meta tag_? Search engines stopped using “keywords metadata” over a decade ago.

Now if the question is will search engines read tags on a post(any post not just poster)? Yes I’m sure they read that and treat it as any other internal “link” on a page.
Will they (search engines) give ya some kinda bonus for using “tags”? I wouldn’t think so, of course no one really knows what exactly they do.

Best rule of thumb, if it helps the human readers navigate or understand the content then it probably helps the search engines in the same way.

Ok thanks Doug, for me as a novice user of blogs, categories and tags, I’m finding the tags a bit confusing on the page, so I’m going to get rid of them for now and maybe reconsider when I’m a bit more knowledgeable about how to use them effectively. Thank you for your input! 🙂

It’s just another possibility to “categorize” posts. You can ignore them.
