A cookies solution.
Elements is a website builder that doesn’t include a fundamental requirement in a website - a basic cookies solution.
I have rebuilt a small website in Elements but have been unable to publish it and have had to return to RapidWeaver 8 to update it where I use JW’s ageing cookie jar solution.
And please don’t link me to some third party solution or some html code.
My intention to use Elements was to avoid add ons (which ultimately caused problems with RW).
Check perhaps some new website templates…. They have what you’re looking for….

Do you mean new website templates on the Elements store?
I’d check myself but it’s currently in ‘We’ll be right back - check back soon’ mode. (Almost as bad as ‘website currently under construction’.
We did discuss this in the forum a while ago. The legal requirements for a cookie solution are quite high, especially in many European countries. If you don’t do it right, at least in Germany, you can be fined easily.
So something Realmac would offer by themselves would unlikely be able to justify all necessary needs of its customers around the world. And a very basic solution will not meet the most requirements at all.
However, once the store is opened for developers, you can likely buy a custom component to use in your projects.
I tend to only use functional/technical necessary cookies which do NOT need a cookie banner at all. Just a note in the privacy declaration.
What is the exact need for your Cookie Banner - are you using Youtube, analytics or anything else which needs consent from the website visitor? What are the legal requirements in your country for cookies?
Ric do you have a URL of what you using with Cookie Jar at moment? TIA

My current requirements are only for a very basic banner acceptance that accepts Google’s intrusions into your privacy.
In the future our requirements may be different. But for now a simple banner would suffice and I still think something very basic like that should be included within Elements. Something that can at least switch off all cookies as an opt out.
Here’s the old site with CookieJar implemented. If I remember correctly the buttons can switch off the very basic Google cookie.
Our main site is slightly more complex but I still use CookieJar.
Is it really beyond the wit of RealMac to provide something similar to JW’s CookieJar stack as an integral part of Elements?
Our website host here in Portugal has in the past sent us notification of basic compliance requirements on Cookie notice and privacy policy. Portugal won’t be much different to most EU countries.
Hence I suggest it is a fundamental requirement of a website creation tool. Even just a simple component like a footer banner with an agreement button would likely suffice for now.
Privacy Pop up
This is lacking the RejectAll and AcceptAll functionality and can not be used imho.
The ability to choose a different language (lang attribute inside the html tag) for each page than the default website language.
I attach a simple, project to show how I have (UK Based) set up a cookies pop up and accept/Decline button with a cookie policy and Privacy policy. Please open file and have a look and if theres anything that meets your requirements then feel free to use. Also I have bastardised a current project so you will need to rewrite content and change any links etc. to meet your needs. Hope this helps if you need it changing or adapting then just a sk.

Hi, how do you actually control to load/use the cookies once you allow them?
I dont do any cookie marketing and dont use them as my client base is 65+, disabled and I do not like to bother them. My products are on prescription and are one off buys if bought. I send all my info on a card in box and if they need anything they contact me by phone or email. I can not answer your question as I don’t analyse any data. It’s a very good question and I would like to know the answer just for curiosity. Maybe I am doing something wrong? I would like to know. I am an ICO registered company and comply with all GDPR requirements other than this.
Enable editing of html tag in the page code areas. This way, custom language for different languages on the same site can be edited.
Yes, I was just curious. Something needs to happen when the visitor accepts cookies. In this case, the Google tag manager would only load once the visitor clicks the accept button. And is not loaded at all before that. Otherwise any accept/decline is not really useful.
→ My idea: Any hosting operator has its own statistics to see how many people visit your site and where they come from, etc. If this is sufficient you can get rid of the Google tag manager and the cookie banner.
It’s for static sites, it’s explained in detail, it’s the custom component that offers an alternative to the RW classic native option. For sites with dynamic content, other methods can be used.

Sounds stupid but I’m not bothered by who visits site as it’s an “educational” professional info site. It’s not how my business runs as I sell disabled products and this site is aimed at those who get it on prescription. Most of my clientele are old and lots don’t have internet access and I have lots of phone calls from these people who I help over phone. Whilst I appreciate I could look at stats and market differently I don’t work like that.
