Dear Elements Weavers,

I’m excited to introduce ShortCodes – a new component that places any other Elements component right inside your CMS text.

In Elements CMS, a blog post is one single Markdown text. Adding a picture or a link to a media file is as far as you can go. ShortCodes changes that: galleries, tables, audio players, contact forms, author cards and almost any other Elements component can now go anywhere in your text.

And it’s easy to do: on a regular Elements page, design whatever you want to see in your post. Put a single component or a whole group of them into a container, then give the container an ID. Now type one short line in your CMS text, exactly where it should appear. On your page, it shows up right between your paragraphs – fully working, whether it’s a gallery with a lightbox, an audio player, an interactive table or a contact form that really sends.

Everything is kept in one place. Change it there, and it updates automatically in every post that uses it. Use as many shortcodes in a post as you like, and keep as many components on your library pages as you need – a post only loads what it really shows.

ShortCodes grew out of my own move from WordPress to Elements CMS on [500places.com](http://500places.com). Writing the articles was never the problem. Getting a gallery between two paragraphs, an advert in the middle of the text or an author card at the end – that was, and it was the one thing I missed most.

A big thank you to everyone who tested the beta and reported back. Your feedback found things I would never have seen on my own machine.

**The impossible is now just one line of text.**

Happy weaving!

Thats also one of my use cases. I want to show photo galleries on my homepages but I do not want static pages, I want them in the CMS - with ShortCodes problem solved 😀

BTW: nice photos you are showing!

How much knowledge of Elements CMS is needed to use this?

Hey Per @PLM
on a scale from 1 to 10 I would say the difficulty level is somewhere at 2 to 4 depending how extensive you want to use ShortCodes. You more or less create a Container with content at a specific place in Elements, give the Container an ID and you write in you CMS a new line of code like: [[shortcode.yourpagename.yourcontainerid]].

At the page [https://shortcodes-elements.weaverpixel.com](https://shortcodes-elements.weaverpixel.com) you will find a setup instruction a bit down the side.

Hope that helps!

This is really good. I also appreciate written “how to” manual.

BTW, the last testblog-6-built shows Rocket picture over the gallery and on my iPad I have no way closing it.

Good catch @meonmac

Something is not ok on mobile browser which seem to work on desktops at the same resolution. Let me have a look.

Thanks again @meonmac

that was important finding, it was not only showing on the galleries, it was a bug affecting all dynamic content like Audio , Tables etc.

But it is solved and working now. A new Build 2 is online.

- Fixes an issue where components inserted into a CMS text could behave incorrectly: a gallery lightbox could stay open, an audio player could refuse to play, and table rows could remain hidden.

**For all current users:** Please update to Build 2 and re-publish your pages.

**Build 3 is online, and this one adds something new.**

Fully AI ready – ask the Elements AI Assistant for a blog with components inside the text, and it can build the library pages, place ShortCodes and write the shortcode lines on its own.

Every setting of the component now carries a description that the Elements AI Assistant and connected AI tools read. They know what the prefix does, what the library path has to look like, and that every container needs an ID – so they set it up correctly instead of guessing.

If you want to try it yourself, this is roughly what I typed:

> generate a shortcodes example project by using the ShortCodes Component with an example homepage, a single post page and an example structure for shortcodes. give the containers on the library pages an ID and bind the homepage list to the cms posts folder

It built all of it – homepage, single post page, the library pages with their IDs, and the shortcode lines inside the posts. I will show the whole thing step by step in a blog post on [weaverpixel.com](http://weaverpixel.com) shortly.

Build 3 changes nothing in how your pages work, so there is no need to re-publish. Just update when it suits you.

Happy weaving!
