The forum is built and hosted by [Discourse](https://discourse.org) so we automatically get updates, this is the new style. I’m not really a fan either, but am sticking with it for a bit to see if it grows on me.

You can set it back to the old theme in your user preferences under interface 🙂

Yeah, the new default style wastes space and makes it more difficult to scan on busy days. Also, the default text entry doesn’t recognize the Return key ;~). Big step backward.
