That directory does exist and it’s included in /sitemap.xml. This is why Google finds it. But there’s no index.html file in that directory, which is why you get that weird folder content screen instead.
If you don’t want that, there’s a couple of options to fix it.
Remove the directory entirely using an FTP program (RapidWeaver can’t do this unfortunately… (Feature request for Elements, @dan! )
Set up a redirect, either by inserting an index.html file that has the redirect or by putting it in your .htaccess file.
Turn it into a proper page
If you do ‘1’, make sure that your RapidWeaver project doesn’t sneakily contain a page that is written to the /power/ directory. Also: make sure that the sitemap.xml file is updated to reflect the deletion, or remove the sitemap.xml file altogether if you no longer use it.
If you don’t know how to do the steps in ‘2’, let me know.
Hi there Erwin - I will gladly accept your offer of help … I think option 2 sounds simplest for me. To have a new (unseen) /index.html page with a sneaky redirect. Is the best way just to use the redirect page supplied by Rapidweaver - or is there a better way ? Thanks so much, Jol
If you no longer have content in that power folder to display on your website, then I think Option 1 would be the simplest solution (imho). Then use the removal tool in Google Search Console to request removal of the URL from Google’s SERPs.
Are you facing the exact same issue, or just status messages from Google about pages not being canonical?
The exact same issue that @jbob was facing is rather rare, and had to do with a plugin on his website that messed up the page indexing. So I’d check first if I were you.
If you’re getting Google Search Console messages about pages not being indexed because it can’t figure out if they’re canonical or not, then it’s a different, much more common, issue.
Actually it is a coding based website. So then how i can solve this issue.
there is one more issue and i think @jbob not facing this issue that is my website blogs pages are redirect to some third party anonymous websites (but only in mobile not in desktop or laptop).
check my blogs. i will share you the website link:
@jbob’s situation was that a mail plugin somehow opened a redirect to a different page when it loaded, either maliciously or by bad design by that plugin’s maker.
It caused Google to see the redirected site as part of Jol’s own site, and caused canonical errors as a side effect. And of course real life visitors got directed away from his site, so it was really annoying.
What do you mean by “coding website”, by the way? Did you build it in RapidWeaver, or did you code it by hand?
By the way, I can’t open your webpage. It fails to connect. Perhaps a DNS issue?
