# Realmac's purpose?

The RapidWeaver community has so much more to it than just an app. I am pretty confident that the paid course help the community more than we think. Having the community site is important. If course help fund the maintenance an development of that, great.

We also need to note that all of the course about core RapidWeaver functionality are free. All of the paid courses are about 3rd party add-ons or more advanced topics like SEO.

Yes, I’m afraid that does seem to be the case.
I am just sad that I have failed to articulate adequately that what I am arguing for is actually a strengthening of the interface between RW core (or something like it) and the Stacks approach to content creation.
The only points I can’t resist making before I climb back into my crypt are these:

Isn’t that more or less what I said? Stacks is a page type plugin too, is it not? Certainly hugely abstracted into realms pretty much untouched by other plugins, but a plugin and page type nonetheless. Presumably governed by interface constraints common to that which the RW Core exposes. Has anyone made a stack which allows you to control project publishing or project general settings? (ok, a crude example perhaps).

I don’t think it has. I think its incredibly wonderful, but on the front end you don’t think the UI could be improved even a little bit? On the back end you surely can’t be a fan of all that stacks\_in stacks\_out DOM stuff?
But there it is. I bet you a dollar though I’m not the last person to wish for a standalone Stacks edition.

A good point Joe. I think/hope that everyone commenting is doing so out of concern for the future of Realmac. They are a British company who deserve to do well. I signed up for the club thing even though I didn’t really need it and then bought the tutorial deal to support they guys. I just somwtimes worry that their revenue stream isn’t obvious in the way that yours and @isaiah’s is ( not that I begrudge your income stream - I love Stacks and what you and the other developers do).
It just needs to be sustainable for everyone and I hop it continues for the foreseeable.

I agree completely.
Despite having been accused of talking rubbish and messages which seem, to me at least, to describe a sense of frustration, I think this has been a great thread giving people a chance to speak up for RW and RMS and others to question the direction and roadmap for RW in the face of seeing output from RMS focussed on selling videos about a product which cost more than the product itself.
If this thread had not happened we would not have learned, for example, that Joe Workman (and presumably other devs too?), now have a copy of RW8. Thats exciting news, right?

You did make some good valid point here on this thread. I agreed 100% with you on the plugin vs stack bit. I felt re-articulating it made my statement stronger. 🙂
Of course I think that Stacks could be improved. I work very actively with Isaiah to make Stacks 4 even more powerful than it is now. As for the stacks in/out classes, there are already ways for a 3rd party dev not to include them in the published code. I have many stacks that do this now. However, it does require that the dev know what they are doing. Also 99.999% of users really don’t care about extra divs on the page.

Stacks and Themes. There’s plenty of innovation there. And so long as RW provides the framework for those developers to prosper, I think things look good.

You’re clearly having a specific issue with an accordion effect that’s frustrating you, but I don’t recognise the way you’re characterising Stacks and stacks. Without them I’d probably have moved to - sigh - WordPress long ago.

@joeworkman OMG - I’m with you all the way. You said somewhere that RW was 10 times better than it started - I think it’s 100 times better, especially with the stuff you and other devs add to the product. Stacks etc - who cares - it’s all part of RW to me - its just all great.

Your site looks great @to12ny the good thing is that Rapidwever makes it easy to publish your content, if you want to add bells and whistle, by investing more time, money and effort in additional plugins and stacks then you can. The challenge of getting people to read it remains the same, concentrate on content and your target audience and you’ll get there, only use the bells and whistles if it helps you achieve that task.
