Search facility

I think I may have confused Wrensoft when I said that I was building the site in RapidWeaver, as if I understand you correctly Zoom works outside of RW but still within OSX. Is that correct?

Yes, if you want new page and changes to be reflected in search results you must reindex. But that just takes a minute and just a few secs up upload the files.

You don’t need to know any coding. You simply drop the provided search box code where-ever you want the search box, then you make your Search Results page in RW and drop in the Results snippet.

Tweaking the indexer is the most time consuming. You must tweak and test until the results are returning results as you wish. Here’s the options.

And yes… Zoom runs completely outside of RapidWeaver. You do use the provided snippets in your RW pages but those snippets have no relationship with RW… they are simply HTML/php code snippets…

Frankly, you don’t need a stack for this. After reading this thread, I created a custom Google search engine and added it to my site in a total of about 60 seconds.

  • Go to the Google custom search engine page
  • Fill in the boxes to specify the site you want it to search
  • Copy the code it gives you
  • Create an HTML stack for your site
  • Paste the code in
  • Save, publish, and head off for cocktails

Thanks for the suggestion, however I have previously tried the google search and although it works it relies on the google bots to index the site and this can take some time after any changes are made.

Doesn’t the custom Google Search put ads on the search returns?

Also… you can’t force google to re-index your site… With zoom, I can reindex my site and have accurate search results in minutes…

With zoom I can control the search results.

I am in control… not google…

Hello,
Send a PM you need help in setting it up, include url of site. One beneficial thing I can do is provide screen shots of my setup and provide you with a quickstart.

Replying to my own note about 3 posts up… The goal of my own search on site is to provide visitors a great working SITE search tool. Most visitors come to this site via google search… but once they have found us with google (or whatever) the site search tool works best. We have rather unique content.

So yes, I realize the value of being SEO friendly…
