# Some issues with static CMS items and the layout of articles on a blog page

I’ve tried to follow along with the CMS videos on setting up the CMS and I have a working Home page with static items controlled by the CMS and showing correctly and they can be amended through an Admin page - BUT when I added a new page called Blog and copy/pasted the menu, banner and footer from the Home page to the Blog page I expected the CMS controlled text items to show up which they are not doing so I’m a bit lost with that one. Next problem I have is getting the Collection Items to line up properly. At the moment I have an image and a title but I can’t figure out how to show the title under the correct image. The “No Item Found” would seem to indicate that you haven’t pointed your twig at the correct CMS items.

On the item elements that are duplicated on each page, the source URL is exactly the same on the Blog page as it is on the Home page!

There are multiple things to hook up for any CMS use. I’d guess you haven’t hooked one up again on the new page. This is where seeing the Project itself would get you a faster answer here, as we’d just examine it and find what was missing and point you to it.

The second page is linked to URLs, not resource files.
You’ve also got your Articles and Content folders saved under a page (CMS, which points to your online login).
So you’re not exactly dialed into how the CMS system works.

And when I use that structure and start hooking things up correctly I get this:
The “An amazing article” is body text from the one article I stuck in the Content folder. I haven’t bothered to hook the rest up or do more articles.
“CMS online” is the page you built for the online log-in.

OK - I now have this as my page/file structure and the CMS online page is working, I have used it to update my static data and also viewed the changes on my Home page:
Leaving aside the articles data feeding into a blog for a moment (I don’t really want blogging data appearing in my menu, banner or footer) I have now simply gone into the pages view and selected duplicate on the Home page which has produced the new page ‘Home Copy’.
Without touching anything at all on this Home Copy page I would have expected to see my static data replicated on this new page but I am not seeing it! Just the dreaded ’No item found’ message in all the static fields.
Any thoughts?

Again, you were using URLs instead of Resource links. Did you fix that?

I’ve been trying to follow along with the video ‘How to set up Elements CMS part 2 - but rather than just using data from a set of markdown files, I wanted to use the Online Editor to create and maintain these markdown files. I can see them just fine in the online editor. I can also see them on the server.
When I am then setting up the Item source for the Name field for example, if I use the Page option which I think is what you are suggesting - I can navigate to the content folder but not to the specific markdown file or indeed any file?

It appears you’re trying to create separate articles via online entry as opposed to blog or served entries (the M in CMS). That adds complications. Big ones. Because you’re going to be back in Elements every time you add something online as a onesie article.
You seem to be using a grid, so that seems a natural to using a blog-type approach for what you’re trying to do instead of the onesie approach. A card-type style with title, summary, photo, maybe date and author that is correctly living in a Flex grid is probably what you want, along with a “post” page that those cards click through to show the entire article.
