I’ve been using Rapidweaver Classic for some years (10) to create a Natural History Photograph website [https://puffinuspuffinus.suckedslant.uk](https://puffinuspuffinus.suckedslant.uk) Up to now I’ve only ever had to use FTP with an ISP Password. But it looks like I’ve been lucky with this judging by some of the posts on this topic as far back as far back as 2016. I made a site about Brambles in Norfolk last year [https://brambles-of-norfolk.uk](https://brambles-of-norfolk.uk) using Rapidweaver Classic (only my second site) and I’m in the process of redoing it in Elements. I use Dreamhost in the US and they wouldn’t accept an FTP upload using Elements. So I’m desperately trying to get grips with SFTP and the need for SSH keys.

They have documentation [https://help.dreamhost.com/hc/en-us/articles/115001736671-Creating-a-new-Key-pair-in-Mac-OS-X-or-Linux](https://help.dreamhost.com/hc/en-us/articles/115001736671-Creating-a-new-Key-pair-in-Mac-OS-X-or-Linux) to explain how to create them but I’m not in anyway experienced in this kind of thing. So although I can put the first command into terminal ssh-keygen -t ed25519 and it comes back with Enter file in which to save the key (/Users/username/.ssh/id\_ed25519): and I type this in, and I can’t find the file. I then changed this to (Users/username/Desktop/.ssh/id\_ed25519 and it came back asking for a passphrase

Enter passphrase for “/Users/username/Desktop/.ssh/id\_ed25519” (empty for no passphrase) and then there was a little key. But terminal wouldn’t let me add anything after the little key. At the moment my present question must be what to do now? Any help would be gratefully received. Mike

How do you know it wasn’t letting you enter anything after the key?
You won’t see any characters when you type, but when you press Return it will ask you to confirm the passphrase

While SSH keys are fantastic security wise, they aren’t required to connect via SFTP with Dreamhost, per their help guide here [https://help.dreamhost.com/hc/en-us/articles/115000675027-FTP-overview-and-credentials](https://help.dreamhost.com/hc/en-us/articles/115000675027-FTP-overview-and-credentials).

You can use a password if you don’t want to bother with an SSH key…

Thanks Dan I’ve had some backwards and forwards discussion with Dreamhost this morning and they did tell me that. They explained about MaxConnectionsPerHost (Max of 10 in Dreamhost’s case) and how SFTP overcomes that particular problem and how they don’t need SSH keys. But they still haven’t quite got to the root of the problem. Finger crossed

Thanks again Mike

Seems you can just follow the [help guide](https://help.dreamhost.com/hc/en-us/articles/115000675027-FTP-overview-and-credentials.) I posted to reset your SFTP password no? That should work in RapidWeaver’s publishing settings..

What problem are you having exactly with publishing?

Hello Dan

Some of it was the differences in settings between my Classic settings , that weren’t the same for Elements. A backslash here that wasn’t needed and I’d never used the browse button to set the path and that seemed to make a difference, with classic I was writing it in manually. Also setting the upload speed to 6 whereas in reality you only need 1 or 2. But Dreamhost were brilliant and extremely prompt and helpful as always, when I have needed them. I have to say very pleased with my new elements site. [https://rubussp.brambles-of-norfolk.uk](https://rubussp.brambles-of-norfolk.uk) One small thing my breakout buttons don’t go blue, they just get larger but stay grey. Is that normal? Thanks again for the help.
