SCA Impact on internet financial transactions

Received an email from Stripe regarding forthcoming SCA (Strong Customer Authentication) changes driven by the EU. Looks like these will be increasing the need for 2 factor authentication and definitely 3D Secure. As a result, Stripe have introduced new APIs. Anyone know if these are likely to require new versions of RW stacks and plugins for e-commerce?
