Hello, the contact form isn’t working in RapidWeaver 8; I get this message when I run a test send. Can you help me?

Hi @gilles.ikrelef

Sorry you’re having troubles. I’d recommend doing a re-publish all files from RapidWeaver to make sure everything is uploaded to your web host that needs to be. If that doesn’t fix it, you can trying sending a support ticket to your web host with the below information:

> Hello,
>
> My RapidWeaver contact form is failing because PHP cannot create its session file. PHP is currently attempting to use:
>
> `/var/www/sda/6/2/gillesikrelef/sessions`
>
> as the PHP session save path, but `session_start()` reports that the directory does not exist.
>
> Could you please check the PHP `session.save_path` configuration for this account and ensure that the configured session directory exists and is writable by the PHP process?

I’d also recommend sending them those PHP warnings that you posted here so they can review them as well.

Finally RapidWeaver 8 is no longer in development. You might considering upgrading to Classic at the very least, Elements preferably. 🙂

Hello,

I followed your advice and reconfigured everything. I’ve made progress—there are no more warning messages, and the page looks clean. However, a message now appears on the contact page when I try to send a message:

“I’m sorry, there seems to have been an error trying to send your email. Please try again.”

I tried using the trial version of RapidWeaver Classic and got the same message.

My web host tells me it is a programming issue, not a hosting issue.

I’m stuck.

Please can you help me ?

Does your web hosting provider allow for mail to be sent via PHP’s mail function? A lot of web hosts have shut that down (including us) because it’s an old and insecure method to send mail and opens contact forms up to Spam attacks.

Who is your web host?

Yes, I think so. I checked the help section and there’s some information there.

My web host is [Free.fr](http://Free.fr) and my website is

Hi @gilles.ikrelef

I don’t really see any information on their website regarding if PHP mail is allowed or not. It sort of looks like you are hosting your website through your ISP instead of a web hosting company.

Anyway, I doubt the old contact form will work. You might consider just using a third-party contact form, such as [https://letterbird.co/](https://letterbird.co/). They give you one free contact form and it works on pretty much any provider. I imagine it would work fine for you. That would probably be less of a hassle than trying to go back and forth with your current web host. 🙂

For what it’s worth the old contact form has been disabled on our hosting as well, however I’m certain we could give you better support on our hosting. [Check it out](https://elementshosting.io/) if you feel inclined. ☺

Thanks for your help.

I’ll give this alternative a try, and if it doesn’t work out, I’ll stick with the “contact me” link I created on my homepage.

As for a different hosting provider, I’ll look into that later on—if I manage to create a decent professional page.

Thanks again, and have a great evening.

No problem. ☺

I’m pretty sure [https://letterbird.co/](https://letterbird.co/) will work. You can embed the contact form on an HTML page type, then test it out to see if it submits a contact form to your email. Let us know if you have success with it.
