A basic question about updates -> themes -> projects

My apologies if this has been covered elsewhere before (and is probably a very basic question for most!), but can someone explain the impact of updates to Elements as it relates to themes and existing projects?

Does an update that contains fixes, for example, fix things simply upon re-publishing the project? Or does the element need to be re-added to the project? Does a theme need to be updated?

Generally, things get updated in the project, so you’ll need to re-publish your site to make those changes live on the web.
