I have a site with a lot of images. I have the images organized in the resources section. Because there are so many images (allegedly) Elements is running dreadfully slow. The ‘fix’ is to change the image from Resource to Custom and link a url to the image on the server. This works, however, where do you put the Alt Text for the image? Do I have to insert HTML to do this?
Elements shouldn’t be running slow with a lot of images in resources… do you have a lot of large images (that are being resized) on a single page?
You can enter the alt text in the media inspector:
You can also switch to a custom image and just paste the URL into the source field and use the alt tag field there.

Every image on my site is under 100kb. I read somewhere (not sure where) that one of the reasons Elements would run slow is due to a heavy amount of images in resources and to link directly to them. When switching between pages to edit, it usually takes about 15-30 seconds to render the page in elements. Is there another reason elements is running slow?? Also, my custom image doesn’t have the alt text field. I’m on version 2.4.4. was the alt image field for custom added past this update? I’d rather have the images all in resources as it makes it a lot easier to manage. is there another possibility why elements moves so slow?
Can you share your project via Elements Cloud with us so we can take a look and find out why it’s running slow?
You should update to Elements 3.0.9 beta to take advantage of the new features, it’s free for everyone with an active license, and even thought it’s a beta it’s now stable enough for full time use.

First of all I have to say wow! that might be the biggest RapidWeaver website I’ve ever seen and it looks nicely designed, well done!
On first inspection it seems the Politico page (and some other top level pages with a lot of images) appear to load slow, the other articles seem to load just fine (speed wise). Is this what you’re seeing as well? What Mac are you running Elements on?
The good news is we can further optimise Elements to make it faster at loading large pages like yours and it’s something we plan to do soon. I’ll chat with @tpbradley about this and see what we can do. Give us a couple of weeks!
On a related note, a site with this much content seems perfect and more manageable if it was made into a CMS based site, did you look at using the Elements CMS?
when I try to navigate between pages, the right navigation window appears quickly, but the page itself takes quite a bit of time to render. And sometimes, as weird as it sounds, another page renders. Then I have to click to another page and back again.
