Border radius Usability-Bug?

@dan is there a way to improve the Usability of the border radius or is this an bug?

i know that there is a preset of options, but if I want to enter a value myself, there is no way to set the value directly.

the only way at the moment is to hold down the trackpad/mouse button and then swipe left or right until the desired value is set.

take a look at the video

I don’t think it’s the best solution

Hi @Pegasus

I remember that @ben once wrote that the Radius and Border Controls still need an overhaul. My understanding is that it then will work like the Spacing Controls, where you can connect the four values and then you do not have to set four independently.

But I really agree with you, that entering a value directly would be a improvement (also for the Spacing Controls  )

Very early on in the BETA there was a discussion about making many of the settings UI elements support direct entry of values. I was on the verge of writing a post to see where this feature was when this one popped up.

I agree there are numerous settings that could benefit from the direct input of values. Some where it is actually ciritical because you cannot control the value to a fine enough degree. For instance, in an SVG they are perfectly capable of rendering strokes that are less then a one, but you cannot do this in Elements because you cannot enter values with decimal places. This is not good.

But more importantly everywhere there is a slider you should be able to enter the value directly in the value field as it is faster and more precise as opposed to trying to manipulate the slider to the exact value.

I realize that some of this stems from the underlying Tailwind system where there are preset values for things, but I don’t think that precludes improving the usability of these settings.

With regards to the border radius settings I couldn’t agree more, it is not very user friendly to have to perform four clicks to set all of the corners to the same radius.

Yes, I understand that there are bigger problems to fix, but these small usability issues have been around for a LONG time and they can really impact productivity. So I really hope the team will address them in the not too distant future.

We definitely agree that the Border controls need another pass. Things like linking sides and allowing arbitrary values (just like in the Spacing controls) are high on our list.

That said, I can’t say exactly when we’ll get to it as we’ve got a lot of other pressing features and fixes currently in progress. But rest assured, border control improvements are on the roadmap

@ben What about being able to enter arbitrary values things like stroke width in an SVG? This is crucial to the effective use of stroking on an SVG. Very often I want to enter a specific decimal value for the stroke but this cannot currently be accomplished.

Many other places would benefit from value entry. For me anywhere there is a slider that displays a value alongside it, that value should allow direct entry of the value.

I realize there are many other pressing issues, but these QOF items add up over time and have a direct impact on productivity.
