Build the site in a non-publishable, test version of Elements as development progresses

Hello team,

As far as I’m concerned, I’m sticking with the Classic version of RW while I wait for the options in Elements to be expanded.

However, I would be happy to contribute to the development of Elements by rebuilding my website from the scratch at my own pace and sharing my observations with the development team. Perhaps in a year or two, I could make the permanent switch to Elements.

To this end, would it be possible to have an active but ‘restricted’ version of Elements (if possible free of subscription or with a limited one) in which I could preview pages without being able to publish them on the web?

PS. In the meantime, I’m keeping my subscription to RW Classic.

Cheers,

Zdenek

Hi @zdenek,

Yes, Elements trial already enables you to do this, you can create a 3 page website and save the project, only publish and export is blocked

The trial mode in Elements has the following limitations:

  • No publishing: You can’t upload or publish sites in trial mode.
  • No export: Exporting project files is disabled.
  • Maximum of 3 pages: You can only add up to three pages per project.

Will that work for you?

Hi @dan

At first, this may be enough. But I think that after a while I will need more than three pages. I plan to work on the Home, Photo Gallery, Video, Texts, and Contacts pages, as well as TCM for blog management. That will quickly add up to 15-20 pages.

With only three pages, once I’ve come up with an acceptable design, I’ll have to delete one page to redo another. That won’t be enough for TCMS. I could get an idea of how Elements works, but I wouldn’t be able to prepare for the transition from RWC to Elements.

Cheers,

Zdenek

The trial mode limitation is three pages per project, so when you’ve done with the third page park it in another project by copying and pasting the page structure and any resources, and then delete the page, or just move on to another project for further pages. It’s not like you’re going to be publishing the entire site, you’re just previewing individual pages, right?

You know that you cannot use TCMS with Elements…? It’s a set of stacks, which are not supported in this app.

OK, I think there are much to discover …. However, I am curious to see if we can add blog data (with photos) directly from the administration pages in the browser (as I do with TCMS). As I said, I will soon begin my “journey of introspection” with Elements and will be back with my questions/suggestions.

Not yet via a UI, but the web based admin is on the roadmap. It’s gonna be awesome!
