Building a page using only Custom Components (Project Download)

Just for fun I put together a page using only Custom Components with a little help from ChatGPT for the layout code. Everything is set to use the correct theme colors so it changes really nicely when switching themes

I’ve also hooked everything up to custom properties, and the Services section is using the data feature. Here’s a little video (no audio) giving a demo of the features…

Download the project here, and have a poke around, hopefully it’ll help if you’ve just got started playing around with Custom Components — I’ve always found one of the best ways to learn is to examine sample code

Any questions just ask. Happy Weaving!

@jscotta So, here we are : will you provide a custom GPT ??? :yum:

Not sure what you are asking? Will I be using a GenAI tool to generate custom components? You bet your Bippy! In fact, I’m hoping this sort of framework will be expanded. For example, built-in code generation (using the GenAI model the user chooses) for components.

Although–and I’m sure this is well beyond current scope–the ability to use GenAI to create a full sitemap and wireframes using the components available in Elements. Yes, I’m referring to the capabilities of Figma and Relume. I don’t know if Apple will provide the GenAI tools and APIs to enable Realmac to do this, but I think it is going to be a success requirement.

An advantage that Elements has is privacy, potentially price, flexibility.

At the moment, those tools will obviously have a huge advantage in just the sheer number of pre-built components that their AI can pull from to generate wireframes and sitemaps. But I think that the Realmac crew are starting to find traction in using GenAI to help them create components quickly. And the custom components are going to be huge for developers.

We’ve discussed many, many ideas for adding “AI” to Elements, and in some regards it’d be easy to rush in and add AI, but we want to do it right. We have some great ideas on how it could be genuinely useful, but first we need to finish the core product!

We’re also very privacy focused, and I think this is something that is only going to become more important. So however we implement “AI”, we’d look to do it in the best way possible.

For now, you can use ChatGPT for custom components and get your “AI” fix that way :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

Onwards and upwards!

I’m just teasing, but I’m always curious to hear your opinion on the progress in this field. It’s terrible to say it, but during the school holidays I teach my daughter how to use AI. When school starts again (she’s starting high school) it’s clear that for the first time she’s going to find herself competing with other high school students, especially those who already know how to increase their abilities using these tools. And I’m not even talking about cheating… Another world has appeared, it would be a shame to miss it.

Any time you want to chat about it, Bruno, just send me a DM and we can either stay on here or choose another method. My main business, these days is assisting companies in implementing AI/automation to solve business problems. I have a personal preference for the Apple ecosystem…even though I see seismic changes coming to how we interact with and use computing devices. So…ping me if you want to chat somewhere where we don’t distract the fine folks on this forum that are probably tire of hearing me and tired of AI in general.
