Challenges with Page Protection Pack

I put the page protection component on the home page of the site I am working on www.christtoourculture.com. Locally, the password splashscreen comes up. I enter the password, and I can enter the site.

When I post this to my server, the splash screen for the password comes up, but it claims I am entering the wrong password?! Go figure!! I tried this multiple times, and it works locally but the same password won’t work once the site is publish.

Any help is appreciated! Thanks, guys!

Try a basic password with only english letters first. Like
admin

The server might not be configured to use utf-8 which you need to enable in the htaccess then.

Thanks for the reply.

My first attempt was a password of four numbers. That didn’t work. The second attempt was a password of 5 lowercase letters. That also didn’t work.

I will try admin and let you know how it goes.

Unfortunately, admin as a password also did not work. :slightly_frowning_face:

Hi @Christ2RCulture

If Password Protect is working locally but not on your live site, then my best guess is that this is a server configuration issue.

Could you check which version of PHP is installed with your hosting company?

Can you also try a “Re-Publish All Files” so we can be sure everything has been uploaded.

Thanks

It is version 8.3. I will republish all and get back to you.

Republishing all files doesn’t change a thing. It is a server side issue.

What should I look into? .htaccess files?

This is very odd, I’m not quite sure what’s going on here

When I enter a random password, Password Protect correctly returns an error response and, as expected, does not log the user in.

Could you confirm the exact password you’ve set, so I can be sure I’m testing with the correct one?

Also, would it be possible for you to share the project with me via Elements Cloud?

I tried to DM you, but it won’t let me.

Here you go. elementsapp://downloadDocument/v7q6wVCaYo8I

The current password is as simple as I could make it. “1”

I alerted my web hosting company to the problem (site5.com). They have no response to the issue. I am in discussion with Chilidog web hosting about switching my new site to them. They appear to be the most Real Mac Software compatible . :slightly_smiling_face:

Thanks again for looking into this.

Great job with Elements! I am grateful for your software!

Hi @Christ2RCulture — have you removed the project from your Elements Cloud account? I’m not able to download it here

Yes @Ben I removed the project. It contains a purchased template. Last night, to protect the author of the template, I yanked it so it was not public.

Could you enable me to DM you in this forum with a new link?

@ben I want to get back to you with an update on this one. It took too long to get my Elements test site www.christtoourculture.com switched from my old hosting provider, which kept the page protection element from working, to chilidoghosting. As soon as I had the site running on chilidoghosting, the page protection element worked without a hitch!

The problem turned out to be my host! My old host was running php 8.3. Chilidog started me at php 8.2, and it worked fine, but I switched the site to php 8.4. It still works fine. I hope that helps others. Apparently, the page protection element will not work with some hosting providers. I don’t know why, but I can only share my experience and give a great shoutout to chilidoghosting. They were excellent help!
