CMS - Why only Author

Hi @ben ,
I just watched your video on the CMS beta. Thank you for that, it makes getting started easier, and thank you for your careful approach.

I just have one comment/question: The authors get a link to additional MD files. Why only the authors? Couldn’t you check each tag for a subdirectory? And if a subpage with the matching name exists, would that be used, otherwise the default one?

That would make it an open system, and you could create different pages. I’m thinking of a shop system, with one page showing the payment methods, the item itself, delivery methods, etc.

for the initial version author and tag relationships will work automatically.

We could expand on it later, but there are many things we’d have to consider before opening it up to allow anything to be related — there’s performance considerations when potentially loading many files, nested relationships, caching, how would search work on unknown relationships… the list goes on.

I’m not saying it’s not something we’d possibly like to do, but it’s not something we’re focussed on for the Elements CMS v1.

Thanks. I obviously don’t have a complete overview of the dependencies. My post is meant to be an idea. However, I’m happy to wait and see what happens next and will get back to you if there isn’t already another solution.

Sorry to jump in here but I asked yesterday about author numbers On ABOUT tag the columns and rows contains no “ROWS” information so only allows to see authors as a column so if you have six to display they get “all squashed up” should there be a row information slider here?

TIA

Rows are not currently available, we’ll need to add support for that down the line. Unfortunately I can’t say when this one will be added as we need to prioritise other bugs first.

Thanks do how do you add 6 authors as only shows number of columns and if you leave at three, three dont show, move to six and they all get “squashified”. So they’re unreadable TIA

They should get pushed down to the next line. Can you share your project so we can take a look?

will do but weekend now as not near computer until then. THANKS!!

Well, that’s kind of a downer. So let’s say I want to build a music page with the CMS. In the CMS, I’ll have a couple of collections like “News,” “Bands,” “Musicians,” “Reviews,” and “Genres.” Then, if I want to create a relationship, for example, a News post about the Rolling Stones, and automatically link it to the “Bands” collection, I would need to add “Rolling Stones” as a tag? That’s quickly will become quite limited, isn’t it?

Let’s say in the news about the Rolling Stones I want to add links to the “Bands” collection and the “Genre” collection to display what other bands are in the genre, and also a link to the “Reviews” collection to display the latest reviews on any of the band’s work. That wouldn’t work?

I mean, sure, I could use the tags “Rolling Stones” and “Rock,” but when rendering the tags it would be impossible for the viewer to know which ones link to the genre and which ones link to the band (even though in this case it’s quite obvious), or do you have any sugestions of how to build a solution like this?

I fully understand that this is just a beta and in early stage, but i realy hope thatthis is on the roadmap if it cant be solved in any other way
