Connecting by ftp to server

I have updated from RW 8.5 to RW 9.5, but new classic requires an ftp path in a popup window.

My host, StartLogic.com, gave me the following info:

But the test function in RW classic can not connect.

Hi @traut,

First of all, make sure that your host actually uses FTP, and not FTPS or SFTP. If it uses one of those, make sure you set the connection type in RapidWeaver to the right one.

RapidWeaver, like all clients, also needs a path (and not just a server). This usually something like ftp.yourdomain.com/public_html/ - make sure you know this too, and enter it.

If you’re unsure, open your old project file from RW 8 into RW 9 (RW 9 will ask you to convert it, no worries, it’s safe as it makes a backup first) and check the publishing settings in that file. It should all be there.

Cheers,
Erwin

Thanks for helping with this.
My domain host (StartLogic) says that the server is ftp.startlogic.com

and that my ftp path is. /public_html
I have entered the above server i.d. + /public_html
as well as ftp.perihelionproductions.org
or home/periheli/public_html
or ftp.perihelionproductions.org/public_html/
or home/periheli/public_html

But RW 9.5 does not connect with any of the above.
The StartLogic support will only give me the info in lines 2 and 3 above, and no further help.

Unfortunately, after getting RW9.5, I deleted older versions of RW. The oldest that I still have is RW8.10, but that identifies itself as classic. So I have no older versions to update as you suggest.
Does the fact that ftp.perihelionproductions.org turns blue in the lines above have any significance?

Hi @traut,

You don’t need an older version of RapidWeaver, just an older version of your project file (made in RW 8).

If you open that file in the new RW Classic, the app will ask you if you’d like to convert it to the new format. If you agree, RWClassic will make a copy of the file (so you’ll still have the old file) and open it for you. It will have retained the publishing settings, including the path.

For more general info:

You’ll need the full path from your host. For example, my clients get a path like /domains/[clients_domain_name]/public_html. It could be that you’ll need to add something to put in front of “/public_html“. No one besides your host can tell you what that is.

That the ftp address starts with “ftp.”, doesn;t mean that the protocol is FTP. It could very well be SFTP or FTPS. Try plahing around with those and see if one works.

That it turns blue in your comment on this forum has no significance I’m afraid.

Cheers,
Erwin
